How to request free web space with Geocities

1. Go to http://www.geocities.com

2. Click on the yellow "sign up now"

3. On the right, under where it says Don’t have a Yahoo ID?  click "Sign Up"

4. Fill in the form as I have done for Adel Al-Hadrami.  Notice that I requested the Yahoo ID exactly as it was printed on lecture notes for this class.  Use this Dearborn Michigan zip code 48120 if you don’t know another zip code in the US.  After you’ve filled out the form, press I Agree.

You will now get something like this:

As you see, Yahoo cannot accept the hyphen that I put in some of the class members’ suggested Yahoo! ID.  Just change it as I did here:

5. Now click "Submit This Form Securely" You may get a request that you verify the strange numbers again, something like this:

So,write in the letters and numbers that you see.  This is to prevent machines from creating millions of yahoo addresses to send spam.

6. You now get this:  Registration completed.  Now click "Continue to Yahoo! Geocities"

6.(continued)

7.  Select the radio buttons more or less as I have done for Adel Al-hadrami, then type in the letters you see -not the same ones, since your’'s will be different.  Then click "Submit" and you will get this:

Congratulations. You now have free web space on Yahoo! Geocities.

The page that you go to when you type in "Your home page URL shortcut" has to be an HTML page that is called index.html.

I want you to make your index.html with HomeMaker on line, or with HomeMaker on the Macintosh that will be in the English Club room, 109B on Wednesday at 10:00-11:00, put it on a floppy and send it up to your geocities page.  HomeMaker on line is on the internet:  you just "Save As…" index.html after you have OK-ed the form.

Next, once you have made your index.html, go to "How to upload your index.html to your geocities web site."
