UCDT
Global Change II
Winter 1998
M1. Why did you choose to enroll in Global Change I?
M1.whyenroll: To learn more about it.
M1.whyenroll: I'm a student in civil and environmental engineering. I thought that this would be helpful information( at least interesting) to learn with my other environmental classes.
M1.whyenroll: fufill EPB requirement sounded interesting
M1.whyenroll: Recomendation of advisor. I took the first part in the fall.
M1.whyenroll: because it is required
M1.whyenroll: The course sounded very interesting, it is all material I would like to learn
M1.whyenroll: I want to see what effect the population growth has on our environment. At a time when we have environmental conferences that result in scientists presenting facts that economists deem second rate behind making money, I want a better understanding of what is going on in our world.
M1.whyenroll: to see the role app. of human tech. has had on our planet
M1.whyenroll: It is required
M1.whyenroll: To complete the global change sequence.
M1.whyenroll: It looked interesting and I am a Bachelor of General Studies so I can afford to take a variety of classes.
M1.whyenroll: I enjoyed Global Change I
M1.whyenroll: I had already taken Part I and I was interested in learning more about the human aspect of global change.
M1.whyenroll: I needed a class after dropping one, and this one sounded interesting, and it gives a social science credit
M1.whyenroll: Requirement to apply for SNRE
M1.whyenroll: I'm very interested in the environment and conservation, but I wanted to know more exact information about our's and the earth's future and role...
M1.whyenroll: Took first semester and really liked the style of this course and the related topics
M1.whyenroll: I was interested in the changing environment.
M1.whyenroll: requirement
M1.whyenroll: to fulfill biology requirement. i also took g.c. 1 and was more interested in the social aspects of global change.
M1.whyenroll: Required and sounded interesting
M1.whyenroll: I want to transfer to the School of Natural Resources and Environment in order to major in Environmental Policy. I figured that this course would be interesting and a terrific intro to the major.
M1.whyenroll: I took part 1 last term and liked it. I am interested in achieving a background in
environmental issues.
M1.whyenroll: science credit
M1.whyenroll: I am iterested in this fiels of study and it is also a requirement for a poli sci. credit M1.whyenroll: I wanted to take a class to fulfill my an NRE elective course.
M1.whyenroll: I really enjoyed the first semester and it is required.
M1.whyenroll: I had Taken Global Change I and I'm taking this class as a substitute for Biology.
M1.whyenroll: Because I was enrolled in the previous semester.
M1.whyenroll: Because it was a natural science requirement, and because I thought it would be interesting. I watched all types of nature shows when I was younger.
M1.whyenroll: I heard it was a good course to take from a friend.
M1.whyenroll: I really enjoyed the first class and gained so much knowledge from it, that I wanted to continue on with it. It was also required in the current school I am enrolled in.
This class also looked like it would give me as much, if not more, information as the first semester class did. I am very interested in what I can do, as a human being, in understanding the problem M1.whyenroll: To finish the requirements for SNRE bio
M1.whyenroll: I chose this class because it was an option instead of taking Bio 152.This seemed more directed towards my main interests and seemed more relevant for my career choice.
M1.whyenroll: I took Global Change part 1 last semester, and wanted to continue the series. The topics dissucussed are very pertinant to my life and the lives of all beings, the interdisiplinary approach supports my learning style, I have strong feelings and ideas to express about Global Change, and I hope to gain new insights from other people in the course...
M1.whyenroll: Interesting course descriptionin the course guide, plus i needed a humanities credit.
M1.whyenroll: prerequist for completion of my program
M1.whyenroll: Truthfully, I enrolled in Global Change I not knowing that it was 2 semesters. I'm actually more interested in the material that we will cover in the Winter semester, that is the more human side of global change. But I enjoyed Fall semester a great deal and found it very interesting and informative.
M1.whyenroll: To learn more about the environment
M1.whyenroll: I just took the first section and wanted to finish out the two parts.
M1.whyenroll: Primarily to fulfill a requirement for my major. However I took NRE 110 last year and found it quite intriguing.
M1.whyenroll: It's a requirement for the School of Natural Resources.
M1.whyenroll: Interests in global change and requirements for SNRE
M1.whyenroll: because i really enjoyed taking gc I this past semester.
M1.whyenroll: To fulfill my biology requirements, 152/154
M1.whyenroll: it was required for what i hope to go into and i helped dr.allan do research and he made it sound fun and interesting.
M1.whyenroll: I need it for my REM and EPB. I would rather take it than BIO. I liked it last semester 110
M1.whyenroll: I had to take the class for SNRE credit
M1.whyenroll: I was prompted to by my room-mate.
M1.whyenroll: To complete an AOSS requirement for the school of education.
M1.whyenroll: I did not want to poke live frogs on the tongue in bio 154. My alternative was this class.
M1.whyenroll: I was in GCI and I wanted to complete the course.
M1.whyenroll: Because I couldn't get into the other SNRE class I wanted, and it sounded pretty interesting.
M3. What do you hope to learn from this course? Are your expectations being met so far?
M3.expect: human impacts on earth-yes
M3.expect: I hope to learn about the human side of global change--what harmful actions humans are taking that are causing global change, and what can be done to prevent or prolong these activities.
M3.expect: The human aspects of global change. So far so good.
M3.expect: I hope to learn how the environment is effected by people, and other factors that effect our environment.

M3.expect: I hope to learn about the environmental impact our growing population has. The computer programs we are learning about is very exciting, although I am having a difficult time with this aspect. I am not very experienced with computers. Otherwise my expectations have already been exceeded in the educators of the course.
M3.expect: Evolutionary trends and causes, population changes my expectations are being met
M3.expect: i hope to gain an understanding of the many ways that human action alters the earth. so far the overview of past change meets with my expectations
M3.expect: In what ways is the earth changing and in what ways can we try to control or slow down this growth.
M3.expect: ?????
M3.expect: More about the consequences of global change. yes
M3.expect: What I hope to get out of this class is a bit of understanding about the world I live in,
and how I and other humans effect the environment. So far the course has lived up to my expectations...
M3.expect: I hope to learn about human impact on he earth and its severity and
its severity
M3.expect: I was expecting the class to be a bit more climate related, however the class has been geared more towards populations.
M3.expect: I want to learn more about issues in the environment that affect us and what we can
do to help. I really like this class so far and my expectations are being met.
M3.expect: I am really hoping that this part of the class isn't as boring as the first part
M3.expect: I didn't have expectations coming into the class. Now that class has started I find the class to be very interesting.
M3.expect: I hope to understand what is going on as we interact with nature and our environment, how our population growth affects that interaction, and what we can do to change or lessen the negative impacts we have on nature as we grow in numbers. My expectations are being met to this point and I hope that this will develop as the semester continues.
M3.expect: I hope to obtain a greater understanding of the issues of the environment. So far I have learned a great deal
M3.expect: I want to see the other side of global change which we did not study last semester.
M3.expect: i hope to learn some soultions to environmental problems. my expectations are being met.

M3.expect: what ever
M3.expect: I hope to learn about how global change impacts humans and our environment. So far the course is interesting.
M3.expect: to learn the social aspects of global change
M3.expect: Well it's still too early to tell if my expectations will be met. I hope to gain a greater understanding of how human impacts shape and alter the environment and ultimatly try t find solutions to minimize human impacts.
M3.expect: I hope to learn about what I can do about the problem, and seek to understand what the Human involvement is in the problem. I want to learn about our society in general, and also our planet. I have only been to a few classes so far, and those classes really caught my attention, more so than last semester. I partially know what to expect, although it does seem different this semester. so far, I would say yes.
M3.expect: I just want a general understanding of the earths evolution and how we can help
change the earth for the better.
M3.expect: I hope to learn about the human impacts on earth and what can be done to change those effects and also what is being done to change those effects. So far my expectations are being met. It is very interesting so far and I find it all to be essential knowledge in dealilng
with current issues in the world.
M3.expect: I hope to learn how demographics and demographic transition affect society. So far that has been discussed and I have been satisfied.
M3.expect: I hope to learn more social and cultural impacts on env. issues. Yes, my expectations
are being met.
M3.expect: The alternative biology criteria, human impacts on the globe, geology, policy, etc. They seem more interesting than 152/154
M3.expect: I hope to learn about what is being done to our environment and how we affect it.
M3.expect: I hope to learn practical applications in regards to the environmental field. They are yet to be determined if they are being met thus far. However, I am hoping that there is computer simulations which will help achieve these expectations as were in the first semester.
M3.expect: I hope to learn about the future environmental changes to come. I did not really have any expectations, and it is too early to decide if any of them are being met yet.
M3.expect: I want to learn about specific case studies that are models of current Global Change patterns, I want to hear peoples viewpoints on the issues and their possible solutions, I want to be inspired to go on to do further research, and to live my life in a more balanced way.
M3.expect: I hope to get a over all out look on how the modern world impacts the earth.
M3.expect: I hope to learn what we can do to reverse the negative effects on the environment and increase the positive. We've had very few classes yet, so I can't tell...
M3.expect: To understand how the global environment is affected by various factors and vice versa. The class looks like it will be a great opportunity to achieve this goal and they are
being met so far.
M3.expect: I hope to learn about the factors that most influence our environment in order to gain more knowledge about what needs to be done
M3.expect: Human impacts on the environment are most interesting to me being a NRE policy and behavior kind of a guy. To early to tell.
