- Ball Featured in Kalamazoo Gazette Article on U.S. Math Education
Deborah Ball was quoted in a December 19 Kalamazoo Gazette article discussing the achievement gap in math and sciences between U.S. students and students from other industrialized nations. The piece considers the findings of a report released this month by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD): U.S. students rank 21st in science and 25th in math scores out of the top 30 industrialized nations. Ball describes the barriers to success in the U.S. system and predicts that common K-12 standards adopted by states and changes to the teacher education system will produce significant improvement.
