Deborah Ball guested on the Patt Morrison show on California Public Radio (KUOR) to discuss a recent Stanford study that compares U.S. eighth graders' progress in mathematics to students from 56 other industrialized nations. (U.S. students rank 31st out of 56). Ball argued that the study's findings indicate that the "enormous effect teachers have on kids' learning" is the greatest contributor to success in the classroom. She went on to discuss effective education, the key components of teacher preparation and the work being done to improve the teacher education program at the U-M School of Education.
