- Council's Goal is for "Every Kid in Michigan to Have Skilled Teaching All of the Time"
Deborah Ball leads the Michigan Council for Educator Effectiveness (formerly the Governor's Council on Educator Effectiveness), a temporary advisory committee that will make recommendations to the Michigan Legislature, the governor, and the State Board of Education in response to last year's sweeping changes to teacher tenure law. The committee is charged with developing an evaluation process for teachers and administrators, along with a student growth and assessment tool, by April 30, 2012. However, Ball asserts that this is not enough time. According to Ball, the Council's goal is for “every kid in Michigan to have skilled teaching all of the time.” Its work, done correctly, will make Michigan "a total leader in the country." The Council's work and approaching deadline were covered in the Detroit Free Press on March 18 and in a March 22 Detroit News editorial.
