- Teacher Education Initiative Featured in the Michigan Daily
Two recent articles in the Michigan Daily feature the Teacher Education Initiative (TEI), the U-M School of Education's plan to refocus its teacher education program on actual skills of professional practice. Daily staff writer Annie Gordon Thomas's January 21 article spotlights a new approach that Professors Elizabeth Moje and Robert Bain have developed in which teacher candidates observe specific teachers who excel at certain aspects of teaching. Thomas interviews students who participated in a pilot test of this system as part of their coursework. In an editorial on January 27, The Daily lauded the School plan to shift to a practice-based curriculum. The editors note that improving the quality of teaching in schools is critical at this time when so many lack jobs and the economy is in need of strengthening.
