John M. MC ENTIRE

John is in the 1880 Lancaster Twp Huntington Co census, age 17, living with Samuel, Hannah, and father Joseph.


William Enyeart

From WFT (John Hammer): "William Enyeart is listed in the PA Son of the American Revolution register as a Lt. of the Bedford County PA Militia. He first settled in 1770 in Trough Creek Valley of Bedford County. A short time later he moved to the valley of Raystown, branch of the Juniata River in Hopewell Twp and began his home. -- The Enyart Family 1625-1975, by Lorence M. Enyart, Gateway Press, Baltimore 1976.
DAR Patriot Index: 1990, Pg. 1567, William: b 1748 PA d 9-2-1828 PA m (1) Catherine Snell (2) Jane Norris - 2LtPA. Catherine died giving birth to twin daughters who also died at the same time. ..."

Buried at Yocums Cemetery, but "both their remains" (Catherine's and William's?) "were removed to the Reformed Cemetery in Marklesburg, PA."

Jane Norris

William and Jane had 16 children between 1789 and 1818. All survived. Abraham was the 15th child. His brother Joseph (1790-1852, m. Mary Wickard) also died in Lagro.


Solomon Bartel

Solomon Bartol is listed as age 47 in the 1850 Canaan Twp Wayne Co OH census. Wife Susanna is 46.

George Bartol, age 46, farmer in the 1860 Wayne Twp Wayne Co OH census, born PA. Wife Jane,36, born OH. daughters Margaret 18, and Rachel 8. Three households away on same page (image 8) is Sol Hoffvine, 29, Mary, 26, and George, 4.

There is a Henry Bartel, age 50-60, next to a Jacob Bartel, age 15-20, in the 1830 Rockhill Twp, Bucks Co PA census. Henry's household also contained a female 60-70, females 10-15 and 15-20. Jacob's had a female 10-15.

Acc to the probate records, Seth Hollinger became the guardian of children Levi and Ellen Bartel after Susanna died: "Rec'd of Wm Shive Adm of Susan Bartel deceased three hundred & thirty eight & 56/100 Dollars in full of Levi and Ellen Bartel's Shares of said estate. Wooster July 21st 1862, Seth Hollinger, Guardian of said Levi & Ellen Bartel". Seth died July 18, 1880, aged 79 yrs, 2 mo. 27 da., and was buried in the Madisonburg Cemetery, Madisonburg, Wayne Co OH, on land he sold to the Church of God. His wife, Margaret, is also buried there, d. June 16, 1885 age 79 yrs, 6 mo, 12 da.

A Samuel Bortel is buried at the same cemetery, d. Apr 21, 1844 age 17 yrs 5 mo., possibly a first son of Solomon and Susanna as Bortel is a common spelling of Bartel (along with Bartol).

In the probate records for mother Susanna: "Wooster July 28 1862..Rec'd of Wm Shive Adm of Susan Bartel deceased, One hundred & sixty-nine dollars and twenty-eight cents in full of my distributive share of the estate of said Susan Bartel, John H. Bartel"

A John H. Bartell is listed in the Wayne County Public Library online obituary index: d. June 1 1902, in Wayne County Democrat June 4, p. 2, and June 11, p. 3.


Levi Bartel or Bartol

Levi is listed as "dumb" in the 1850 Canaan Twp Wayne Co OH census.

After mother Susan died in 1861, Seth Hollinger became his guardian and that of Ellen Bartel.
1860 Wayne Twp Wayne Co OH census has Seth Hullinger, 59, farmer miller, born PA, wife Margaret, 55, born PA, son Seth, 17, daughter Margaret, 17, and son Albert, 12, all 3 born OH.


Theressa Bartel or Bartol

No Theressa is listed in the probate records, but an Ellen is mentioned as having Seth Hollinger as guardian after mother Susan Bartel died.


Jacob JONAS

This link is tentative and based on census records only. There was another Jonas-Messersmith marriage which produced another John Jonas in Fayette Co; Lonnell Clark has John's father as Jacob b 1780 and mother as Mary b 1795.
