Larry's family has asked that his caring for children continues and suggests a memorial contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Joseph Showalter

A Joseph Showalter married Eliza Huntsman Jun 2 1855 (year of Mary's death), in Wayne Co, OH (source=IGI record, familysearch.org). But there are at least 4 Joseph Showalter's in the 1850 Wayne Co census!

The 1850 CanaanTwp Wayne Co Census indicates that Joseph Showalter, age 31, was a blacksmith. Wife Mary 32, son John 7, Henry 5, Franklin 2, daughters Elizabeth 3, and Katherine 1.
On the same page (805), are possibly brothers of Joseph: Jacob 26 and Michael 44. Jacob's wife is Leah, 22, born PA, and they had a son Nelson or Wilson, age 1.

The 1840 Wayne Twp Wayne Co OH census shows a Joseph Showalter, age 60-70, living near Seth Hollinger, the one (or father of the one) who became guardian to children Levi & Ellen Bartel after their mother died in 1852. Next door to Joseph is Henry Shiveler (could be related to Wm Shives).

Jackson Presbyterian Cemetery has Joseph Showalter, Co E. Ohio Infantry (no dates)

Mary HOFFINES

Son Henry Showalter is listed in the LDS database as born Nov 1 1844 of Mary Hoffemire and Joseph Showalter.

"Polly" is mentioned in Henry's 1857 will as being deceased.

Burial record book at Wooster Library shows death date and age -- stone now pretty much unreadable.
It is beside parents Henry & Elizabeth Hoffheins and sisters Elizabeth Feeman and Malinda Hoffhines. While I was trying to trace the letters with my fingers, it fell over, almost on top of me. The top curved piece separated from the main stone on the way down. None of us was strong enough to put it up & together again, and even if we were, the support posts were completely loose and the whole thing would have continued to be a safety hazard. So we reported the mishap to the lady of the house directly in front of the cemetery, who said she will tell the trustees. -- Dawn Bonney, 7/29/02.

A daughter of Joseph and next wife L. (sister Leah Hoffines) is also buried at Kopp's: Sarah Jane, d. Nov 16 1860, age 3 yrs.
