son of Frederick Sr. and Mary Lacy Lloyd of Orange Co NC

Jacob Jr Benzing

OBITUARY:
Jacob Benzing was born in Buffalo, NY July 3 1853, and died at his home near Hersey, MI., Monday Dec. 10, at 12 o'clock noon, arriving at the age of 64 years, 5 months, and 7 days.
On Friday afternoon, Dec. 1, Mr. Benzing went to Hersey and seemed to be as cheerful as on former trips, and after making his necessary purchases he started for his home north of town, and at James McKinstry's corners he was seen to stop his team and stand there for about 10 minutes, then the team started homeward, but as they neared the Reynolds farm Mrs. Reynolds saw him coming, hanging halfway out of the buggy and the lines dragging on the ground. She ran out to the road, stopped the horses and straightened Mr. Benzing up and asked him what was the matter, and his reply was that he was cold. She got into the buggy and held him up with one hand and drove the team with the other to his home. It was found that he had suffered a stroke of paralysis.
Deceased came to Michigan in 1869 and lived in Richmond township for a few years, then moved to Hersey township and settled upon a piece of woodland which he converted into a fine farm and home. He was united in marriage to Miss Katie Pepper in 1875 and they were blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter. His wife and two children preceded him in death.
He was a hard working man, and, with honest and upright dealings with his fellowmen he won their confidence and praise. Mr. Benzing was supervisor of Hersey township in 1912 and again in 1914 and 1915. He was a subscriber to the Osceola County Herald from its start and so prompt was he in financial obligations that he never once failed to renew his subscription before the time expired. He was converted to the Christian faith and joined the Evangelical church when a young man. Deceased was a kind and faithful husband, a loving father and brother and a good neighbor.
He is survived by two sons, Levi and Chris Benzing; three grandchildren; four brothers and one sister, besides many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. May God bless and comfort all the bereaved.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 12, at the Evangelical church and the remains were interred in the Hersey village cemetery, Rev. P. H. Pohley officiating.
