Lt Col and finally full Col in Rev. War. He was in charge of the 7th Battalion of the York Co Militia. His name appears in Pa. archives, printed in 6th series, Vol 2 on 13 separate pages. He was executor in wills of Valentine Climer 1765, William Didrich 1770, Caspar Little 1783. Adam was a man of high standing in Littlestown, also in York and Adams counties. He was one of the wealthiest men in PA. His taxes included farmlands, town real estate, animals, slaves, and stills. There was a widely circulated story that Maria was a Coppock girl, was stolen by Indians and ransomed by Adam, who later married her. From www.rootsweb.com:Winrott

In the Wenderoth genealogy published by Vern A. Carpenter there is an entry for Maria Barbara Wintrode d/o
Andrew & Lydia b.4-17-1824 bp.5-30-1824 Christ Ref. Church, Littlestown, PAAndrew was the son of John and Catherine Huber (Hoover) Wintrode.
John was the son of Adam and Maria (Huber) Wenderoth.
Adam was the son of Johan Caspar and Margaretha (Strep) Wenderoth.
Caspar and Margaretha settled in the Frederick, MD, area in 1734 after arriving in Philadelphia in 1732 from the Palatine.
stone in German: Anna Maria Windroden. Beside her is husband Johann (Adam) and a Jacob Winrott (presumed son) d. Aug 25 1825 (or Aug 23 1823?) age 59 yrs 5 mo.
May be the same as child Jacob Windroth christened by Jacob Lischy June 26 1763, father Adam, mother Anna Maria, sponsors Jacob & Barbara Windroth
Carpenter book has him born 1773, but stone at Christ Church cemetery in Littlestown says he died at age 59+ years in 1823/25.
"Jacob was an innkeeper. He was appointed sheriff for 3 years by the governor, 1806-1809, and county recorder in 1821. He ans wife Margaretha Slagle were wealthy residents of Littlestown and had several slaves." p77

"1741c- Anna Margaret, dau. of Johanes Caspar WENDEROTH was born about 1741. She was probably the Susanna Margaret WINTROW who married, 1767,
to John BIRD and lived in what is now Highland County, Virginia, during the period 1780-1819. Susanna WENDEROTH attended the Evangelical Reformed
Church in Frederick, Maryland. The Church recorded dates of attendance and her age. See Blackwell, Lyle M., MY FATHERS (1979), pp.55-63; Carpenter,
Vern A., WENDEROTH FAMILIES (1987), p.11,78; Oren F. Morton, HISTORY OF HIGHLAND COUNTY VIRGINIA , pp.264-267"Catherine Rudnick believes Margaret and Susannah (wives of John and John Jr) were merged, which fits the baptism record for Margaret.
Confirmed at age 16 in 1759 by J C Steiner at Evangelical Reformed Church of Fredericktown, MD
Susanna (or Margaret) and John had nine children: Catherine, Adam, Frederick, John, Valentine, William, David, Mary, and Jacob.

from Catherine Rudnick: "As for John Jr., the WV Mortality Schedule for 1850 - Harrison County
had the following:
John Bird, age = 74, sex = M, color = (blank), free or slave = (blank),
married/widowed = M, place of birth = Bath, VA, month died = Jany,
profession = (blank), disease or cause of death = kidney comp, number
of days ill = 7
George (C. Bird of Monterey, Highland Co, VA) also gave me a family chart put
together by Lenore Metheny, born 1878, that lists John Jr.'s birth date as 1/18/1774 and
death date as 1/1/1850, but I don't know where she
got the information or when she put the chart together. This birth
date seems to be off one year from the mortality schedule info above, but I
also have looked at Bath County's personal property tax lists from 1791 -
1814, and John Jr. first shows up as a tithable in 1790 (age 16, so born in
1774) and first shows up listed separately from his father in 1795 (age 21,
so again born in 1774). I personally trust the tax records more than the
mortality schedule, so I am sticking with 1774 as John Jr.'s birth
year, and since nothing has proven her wrong, I am also assuming that Lenore was
right about the month and day as Jan. 14."
