Henry Henrich HOFFHEINTZ

Henry Hoffheins is listed in the Dover Twp York Co PA 1830 Census: 1 male < 5, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 50-60, 2 females <5, 2 females 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 40-50.
Another younger Henry Hoffheins is listed in the Warrington Twp census, same county, state, year: 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 20-30.
In the 1810 Dover Twp census, Henry is listed right next to Sebastian. Henry: :3--1-1-1--- (3 sons <10, 1 daughter <10, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 16-26.). Sebastian Hoffheins:122-1----1-.
Only Sebastian Hofheins is listed in the 1800 Dover Twp Census, + a wife and 1 small son, near two Kochenour families.
York County Trinity Reformed Church, York, PA, had a marriage between Henrich Hofheins and Elisabeth May on Nov 11, 1813. George Geistweit performed the ceremony.
Kopp Cemetery still exists behind private houses on Friendsville Rd.; there used to be a church there with joint Lutheran and German Reformed services 1830-1870 called Kopp's Church. Current church (Canaan Lutheran) is about a mile north on the same road, in Creston (Wooster Daily Record, 11/19/64).

Henry owned land in Sigourney, Keokuk Co Iowa -- estate paid about $20 in taxes on it, and it was sold in nine days by accountant J. H. Downing, sometime before Henry's estate was closed. (Son Andreas moved to Keokuk)
Will -- " In the name of the Benevolent Father of all,
I Henry Hoffines do make and publish this my last will and Testament.
Item first I give to my beloved wife as far as the laws of our land will allow.
Item Second it is my wish that all my Sons Shall Share equal of my Estate
also all my daughters Share Equal of my Estate that are now living
and further the Children of my daughter Poly Shall have what she whould of
been entitled to and the Children of my daughter Elizabeth Shall have the Share
She whould of been Entitled to. I further give and bequeath to my Grandson
Willis Henry, Son of my daughter Elizabeth fifty dollars over and above of his
Equal Share of the rest of my Grand Children.
Item third I do hereby nominate and appoint John Hough and John Blocher executories
of this my last will and testament. I do also authorise and empower them to Sell all
my Real Estate by private Sale or in Such manner when Such Terms of credit or
otherwise as they may think proper and deed to purchasers to execute acknowledge
and deliver in fee Simple.
I do hereby revoke all form wills by me made.
In testimoney whereof I have herewith set my hand and Seal this 21st day of October
A.D. 1857."


Susan Dewis

There are a number of Dewis family members in the Strayer's (Salem) Reformed Church of Dover Twp York Co PA, but Susan was not listed. Closest in age was Benjamin Dewis, baptised March 1778, father Johannes, mother Marie Elizabetha. In the York Pa Trinity Reformed Church records, the church where Henry & Susan were married,, a Jacob and Magdalena Dewis had a son Johannes in 1802.

Another Dover Twp Dewis family member, Margaret, was married to William Bear, acc to the will of her father Henry Dewis, d. 1787.:

There is a Sarah Huffhines in the 1870 Canaan Twp Wayne Co OH census, age 70, keeping house, 1000 acres, living with another Sarah Huffhines, age 40, who could be Henry's daughter from wife Elizabeth.

She may actually be the one who married Adam Menges. See Catharine Hoffines born to Sarah and Henry Hoffines.


Jacob HOFFINES

Jacob Hoffheins is listed in the 1830 Dover Twp York Co PA census, with 1 male <5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, and 1 female 30-40. Too old for this Jacob. Jacob may be listed under Henry Hoffheins a few pages later as male age 20-30.


Johann Adam HOFFHEINTZ

Johan Adam Hoffheintz is listed in Immigrants into Pennsylvania Volume 1 as having sailed on the ship Pallas from Rotterdam, landing Nov 25 1763. Johan Daniel Hoffheintz was on the same ship.


Catherina HOFFHEINTZ

A Catharina Hoffeins married William Hock in 1787, at the First Trinity Reformed Church in York PA (D.Irish, Marriages and Marriage Evidence in PA German Churches). Ceremony performed by Troldenier. This is the same church in which Henrich Hofheins married Elisabeth May in 1813.


George Elmer BARBER

Obituary (Traverse City Record Eagle):
"EMPIRE -- George E. Barber, 98, of Route 1, Empire, died at his home on Wednesday following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 25, 1881 in Reed City, the son of Isaac P. and Alice (Hoffine) Barber. He was married on Jun 19 1912 in Oviatt to Sarah A. Wilson, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Paul and Carl, both of Empire; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Mary) Smith of California and Mrs. Gerald (Anna) Bolthouse of Hastings; 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death. Mr. Barber moved to Traverse City as a young man and resided here for a few years before moving to the Lake Ann area in 1904. He has been a farmer on the same farm ever since. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 pm at the Almire Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Samuel D. Maddox officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Ann Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Gideon Society..."
