Green THRIFT

According to her death record, Lydia's father was William Thrift. Other sources have Green's parents as David and Sarah/Sally Thrift (see Thrift_David.paf).
This is from the 1850 NC Census:
Green Thrift age 30 from Orange Co
Dorcas age 27 from Guilford Co
Lydia, 11; Luisa F., 8; Laura J., 6; William, 3; Susannah, 1.

Family folklore has it that Ira's father died at age 27 of blood poisoning. Since we believe that Ira's father is Isaac, who lived 1818-1881, the unfortunate man might have been Isaac's wife's father, Green Thrift.

Dorcus GARDNER

The Green Thrift family is listed in the Guilford Co, NC 1850 Census; Green is listed as being 30 there.

Dorcas Gardner's parents may have been Isaac and Dinah Folger Gardner, born in Guilford Co NC, died in Washington Co In. See Gardner.ged (12/2000) from familysearch.org.

From http://www.martygrant.com/gen/stroud/nc/stroud-peter-burke.htm: "Sometime between 1785 and 11 Dec 1789, Peter Stroud and family moved west [from Orange Co NC] to North Muddy Creek in Burke (now McDowell) County, North Carolina. This is proven, for on that date, Peter and Rebecca Stroud of Burk County sold land to Peter Willis of Brunswick Co, VA, being 800 acres on Terrils Creek waters of Haw River. Peter signed, and Rebekah made her mark. Witnesses were Isham Thrift and Anderson Stroud. Both of them were nephews, son-in-law and son of his brother William Stroud. 1732 - Johannes Casper WENDEROTH, sailed with his new bride (Margaretha STREP), from Rotterdam, Holland on board the ship "Pleasant", James MORRIS,
Master, and arrived at Philadelphia, 30 September 1732. Captain MORRIS in his list of passengers showed 150 men, women, and children on board. Upon arrival,
one-fourth of the 57 men over 16 were listed as sick; one had died at sea. On 11 Oct 1732, at age 28, Johan CASPAR WENDEROTH signed an oath of
allegiance to the English King George II. He settled at Fredericksburg, Md. (formerly in Prince George Co., now in what is Frederick Co., Md. This is part of what
was Orange County or "Old Augusta". The area was at various times under the jurisdiction of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.) Caspar WENDEROTH raised
his family on a farm about five miles south and a little west of present Frederick, Maryland. He died about 1777. Johanes Casper WENDEROTH and wife Anna
Margaretha were devout, active members of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Frederick, founded 1747, where they baptized some of their children. Carpenter, Vern A.,
WENDEROTH FAMILIES (1987), pp.v.-vii, 1-7.
Prior to about
1735, the settlements on the Monocacy River (near the present site of Frederick) were the westernmost habitations in Maryland. Only ten miles east of the Blue Ridge
foothill 's and directly in the path of westward movement, there were about a half-dozen families settled along the Monacacy by 1732. The settlement grew rapidly;
the town of Frederick was laid out in 1745 and the new county of Frederick was created from Prince George County three years later in 1748. The first extant
statement concerning the Reformed Congregation at Frederick is that of a minister who visited in 1747, baptizing twenty-six children and organizing support from
forty-nine heads of families. In 1767 the Reformed Congregation wrote (in German) a church constitution signed by the members of the community, and among the
eighty-nine heads of families is the name "WINTEROTT". - From an outline by Dr. Lyle M. Blackwell of Gauley Bridge, West Virginia.

1733 - Johan Caspar and Margaretha (STREP) WENDERROTH settled for a about two years near New London/Holland, Pennsylvania. Their first child, Anna Maria, was born there on 9 Sept. 1733, and bapt. 20 Sept. 1733, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Sponsor was Anne Marie KELLER, single.
Took advantage of land offered by Lord Baltimore for extremely low rent. Also may have been dissatisfied with Pennsylvania's lack of protection from Indians. But his new Maryland home along the Monocacy was primitive, with wild animals, no roads until 1739, when a road was built from Anapolis to the Monocacy region, and the horsetrail along the Monocacy between Lancaster and Virginia was widened.

The Maryland Hall of Records in Anapolis has various land records for Caspar from 1742-1753, for property called "Wolf Pit" 4 miles SW of Fredericktown. He was naturalized in 1761 by the Frederick County Circuit Court, and because it took so long for the Maryland government to pass a naturalization law, it legalized all his previous land transactions.

Anna Margaretha Strep

Margretha is listed among the Frederick Evangelical Reformed Church communicants through Sept 29 1771; husband Caspar listed longer, through May 1775.

Anna Maria Wenderoth
