2 CONC , 1915, the son of Wilbur D. and Alta (Hoffine) Bare and graduated from Flint Northern High S
2 CONC chool "Class of 1934".  He was united in marriage with Amelia Rosie Eurich in Flint Novembe
2 CONC r 12, 1944; she preceded him in death December 9, 2000.  David was a member of the Halsey Uni
2 CONC ted Methodist Church, a 50th year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, serv
2 CONC ed with the Michigan National Guard before joining the service with the 319th Fighter Contro
2 CONC l Squadron of the US Army Air Corp. where he was stationed in the Pacific during WWII.  He lo
2 CONC ved to sing and in his later years he sang with local groups such as the HollyHocks and the P
2 CONC ierce Chorus.  He enjoyed a good game of horseshoes, working in his garden, and talking abou
2 CONC t various sports with friends and family.  He also enjoyed writing his guest opinion column f
2 CONC or the Flint Journal.  Surviving:  daughters, Beverly and husband Dr. Adger Butler of Detroit
2 CONC , Dawn and husband Chuck Bonney of Ypsilanti; grandsons David and Joel Bonney of Ypsilanti; s
2 CONC everal sisters-in-law including Mrs. BeBeBare of Ann Arbor; many nieces and nephews. In addit
2 CONC ion to this wife he was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

2 CONT     David had a strong memory for all kinds of sports records, and loved to talk about them
2 CONC .  He also had strong opinions against political rascals and for environmental health.  He wa
2 CONC s a cook in the army, and contributed to the family's meals on a regular basis.  He was an ex
2 CONC cellent provider and was guided daily by his religious faith.

2 CONC d Methodist Church for over 50 years.  She had been employed by Hamady Brothers Grocery durin
2 CONC g the 1960s and 70s.  Surviving are: husband, David of Fenton; 2 daughters, Beverly and husba
2 CONC nd Dr. Adger Butler of Detroit, Dawn and husband Chuck Bonney of Ypsilanti; 2 grandsons, Davi
2 CONC d and Joel, both of Ypsilanti; 4 sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews.  She was precede
2 CONC d in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister.

2 CONT     Dave and Amelia lived the first two years of their marriage with another young couple wh
2 CONC o had the last name of Eurich.  Both couples had their first babies in the house they shared
2 CONC , daughters born on the same day. They didn't think Amelia and Leon Eurich were related. Leon
2 CONC , b. abt 1922, was the son of Russian-born John and Margaret Eurich of Flint, MI, with brothe
2 CONC r Karl and sister Evelyn, acc to the 1930 census (dwelling 534, dist 66, Flint, Genesee Co, M
2 CONC I). John may have been the John Eurich who lived in 1920 in Flint with Jacob Aab, Amelia's Ru

1 NOTE The family lived near Lake Ann, MI until 1919.  Their first single family address in Flint wa
2 CONC s across from Jake Aab's grocery store.  An envelope addressed to them with a Wabash In 193
2 CONC 9 postal mark has them at 3606 Alexander. (Otto Weber later bought that house.)  According t
2 CONC o brother Paul's son Ira, Wilbur and Paul's family lived together on Gillespie Street when th
2 CONC ey first moved to Flint to work in the shops.  This is verified by the 1920 Flint census:  51
2 CONC 8-Paul 28, Ferne 25, Ardath 3 7/12; Wilbur 27, Alta 24, David 4 2/12.  Brother John, 16, boar
2 CONC ded next door, with (possibly Ferne's sister) Beatrice OBrien age 17, a William Clark, and th
2 CONC e Sidney Bates family.  All three Bare brothers worked in the auto shop.

2 CONT Wilbur and Alta had three sons in the service during WWII.  One day Wilbur's boss at Buick wa
2 CONC s growling behind his back that "people with family in the service think they get to run th
2 CONC e place"; in response, Wilbur turned and punched him in the chest, knocking him down.  The ca
2 CONC se went to court and the judge let Wilbur go.  I don't remember him except as an ailing old m
2 CONC an so it is good to know these kinds of stories.

2 CONT There are two birth certificates for Wilbur at Huntington Co, IN:  H-5:50, H-7:8.  Only diffe
2 CONC rence is that mother is named as Maud Billings in one and Maud McVicker in the other.  His br

2 CONT        "Solomon Hoffine, farmer on section 4 of Richmond Township, is a native of the 
2 CONT 'land of Penn and of the honest Quakers,' being born in York County, Pa, August 14, 
2 CONT 1830.  His parents, Henry and Elizabeth (Grone) Hoffine, were also natives of the same 
2 CONT State.       
2 CONT      On arriving at the age of legal responsibility, Solomon left home and struck out into th
2 CONC e 
2 CONT world for himself.  First he spent three years as a farm laborer, and then for 12 years he 
2 CONT managed a rented farm; next, he bought a farm of 40 acres in Wayne Co., Ohio, which he 
2 CONT afterward sold, and bought 50 acres in Summit County, same State.  On the latter he lived 
2 CONT and labored for 10 years, and then sold it and came to this county, in the fall of 1879, and 
2 CONT purchased a tract of 120 acres in Richmond Township, where he has made it his home.  
2 CONT Since first purchasing, however, he has disposed of 80 acres. 
2 CONT      In his views of national questions Mr. Hoffine sympathizes with the Republican party.  
2 CONT He has served his fellow citizens in the capacity of Overseer of Highways.
2 CONT      He was married in Wayne Co., Ohio, July 5, 1856, to Mary J. Bartell, who was a 
2 CONT native of that State, and was born Jan. 28, 1834.  Mr. and Mrs. Hoffine have had three 
2 CONT children, namely:  George E., Medora, who died when three months old, and Clara A. "

2 CONT  Solomon (1830-1918) and Mary (1835-1920) Hoffine are buried next to Alice Barber (1861-1935
2 CONC ) and I.P. Barber (1843-1930) at the Lake Ann Cemetery in Benzie County, MI.

2 CONC a from Schwenningen with Jacob's sister Anne b. 1829 on the ship "Cotton Planter" from Antwer
2 CONC p and arrived in NY on May 10 1852.

2 CONC n the shops.  "They were dying up there," due to lack of good farmland.  They lived togethe
2 CONC r along with their families on Gillespie Street in Flint.  A sad coincidence was that both Wi
2 CONC lbur's 3-year-old daughter Annie and Paul's 5-year-old son Leonard  died shortly after they a
2 CONC rrived, Annie of pneumonia and Leonard of a fall into a sewer ditch.    Wilbur later moved hi
2 CONC s family to Alexander Street and Paul and Ferne moved to Clio;  in the early 30s Paul bough
2 CONC t a farm in Clio and Wilbur bought a farm (foreclosure sale) in Grand Blanc (the "Holly farm"
2 CONC ).  So Paul was closest to Wilbur of his siblings; Wilbur was Ira's favorite uncle ("more lai
2 CONC d back, didn't talk as much as Dad").

2 CONT LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Rev. John I. Bare, 88, former resident of Lake Ann from Lakeland, Fla.

2 CONT died Saturday at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
2 CONT      He moved with his parents to Lake Ann when he was six years old.  He moved to Flint a
2 CONC s a 
2 CONT young man, where he worked at the Buick plant for 20 years, leaving as a general foreman in 1
2 CONC 946, 
2 CONT to pursue the ministry on a full-time basis.  He then pastored Wesleyan churches in Saginaw
2 CONC , Flint 
2 CONT and Pensacola, Fla.  He also pastored the Lake Ann United Methodist Church in the early '50s
2 CONC .  
2 CONT After retiring, he has lived for the past 20 years in Lakeland in the winter and Lake Ann i
2 CONC n the summer.
2 CONT      He studied with the Baker Institute and the Owosso Bible College.  He enjoyed hunting an
2 CONC d fishing.  
2 CONT Earlier in life, he loved his garden.
2 CONT      Born in Huntington County, Ind., on Aug 14 1903, he was the son of Ira S. and Maude (Bil

2 CONT On May 28, 1927, in Lake Ann, he married the former Vera Hackney, who survives.

2 CONT Mr. Bare was born Feb 2, 1910 in Huntington County, Indiana, and moved with his parents to Al
2 CONC mira township in Benzie county as a child, and moved to this locality 14 years ago.  He has b
2 CONC een an employe at the state hospital for 13 years and also operated a farm on R. 2.

2 CONT Eld. Henry was born in Warren Co, Ohio, Aug. 25, 1803.  With his parents he
2 CONT came to Preble Co, in 1816.  He was married to Mary A. Foreman Dec. 21,
2 CONT 1826, and he and his wife were baptized by Eld. John Hart in 1835.  He was
2 CONT chosen to the ministry in November, 1842, but not being present at the
2 CONT time, he did not receive his charge till Dec. 25, 1842.  He began his
2 CONT ministerial work early in 1843 and was ordained to the eldership in 1861
2 CONT and for some time was elder of the Four Mile church, Ind.  His marriage was
2 CONT blessed with fifteen children, six of whom have already passed away.  
2 CONT After he had shown a failing of both mind and body for some months, he passed
2 CONT away Aug. 25, 1885, his birthday, at the age of 82 years.  The burial was
2 CONT at Sugar Hill, Preble Co, with a large attendance.  The aged sister who had
2 CONT so well borne with him the Labors of life and had been his constant
2 CONT attendant all the time of his sickness, made choice of 2 Tim. 4:7 and Amos
2 CONT 4:12 for Eld. Jacob Garber and the writer to use as texts for the occasion,
2 CONT as a lesson that all may heed and fight the good fight and so prepare to
