David Chung will be artist in residence participating in the Collaborative Screenprint course
at the Skopelos Foundation on the island of Skopelos this summer 2006 (June 2 - June 21).



• The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts is a non-profit art center that hosts art programs from several U.S. colleges and universities including the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Florida.  
• This 2006 June session is administered through the Corcoran College of Art and Design.

Link to list of course offerings and detailed information.  This is an accredited program, students register for two 1.5 credit classes,  total of 3 credits for the session.  Students have an option to take the Collaborative Print course with David Chung or any other courses on the list.  David Chung will be at the art center during the entire session.  He will not be teaching classes.  The classes are taught by well known faculty from the Corcoran College of Art and Design.  Please see the link below for further information about the classes.

SKOPELOS, GREECE


Experience the unique and inspiring environment of the island of Skopelos, Greece.
Steeped in 3,000 years of Greek history and tradition, the Greek island of Skopelos is home to the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts. Located above the village on a horseshoe bay surrounded by beaches, olive groves and friendly people, Skopelos offers artists a stimulating environment for creative work. The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts is a non-profit foundation housing several large new studios. Its mission is to provide space for artists from all over the world to experiment and grow through the artistic process.

The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts is a non-profit art center that hosts art programs from several U.S. colleges and universities including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Florida, George Mason University and the Corcoran College of Art and Design.
This 2009 June session is administered through the University of Michigan School of Art and Design.

This is an accredited program, students register for two 1.5 credit classes, total of 3 credits for the session. This trip includes a two night stay in Athens to visit the major Greek historical sites.

The cost of the 2009 Skopelos Program depends if you are

1. In-state enrolled University of Michigan student

2. Out of state, non-credit student

3. Out of state student who would like university credit

 

1. For in-state University of Michigan students

- Register for 3 credits, as soon as Spring Semester 2009 enrollment
- Pay a $500 refundable deposit with Jan Dryden in the Finance Office jadryden@umich.edu
- Email David Chung at davchung@umich.edu with your full name (as it appears on your passport) and phone number, and state that you are registering for the Skopelos 2009 program
- The Greece session will cost $1600, this includes hotel in Athens, lodging on Skopelos, the Skopelos Foundation fees, breakfast on Skopelos, bus and ferry in Greece
- Each student must pay for their own roundtrip air transporation to Athens, money for lunch and dinners on Skopelos and in Athens, any spending money, any art supplies as specified by the course (art supplies information will be available soon)

2. For out of state, non-credit students

- Register as a non-credit student as soon as Spring Semester 2009 enrollment

Travel

- Each student is responsible for their own travel. The final date and location of meeting in Athens will be announced soon.

- We are making group travel arragements through Scandia World Travel. Scandia Travel is an international travel agent who have been making group travel arranngements for Skopelos for the past 5 years. Scandia usually finds tickets on Olympic Airways out of JFK, New York. The airfare from JFK to Athens, with the group airfare is about $1260.00.

Meals

- Breakfast is included throughout the trip
- Lunch and dinner are the responsibilty of each person
- At Skopelos, kitchens are available for cooking lunch and dinner, the town of Skopelos has a supermarket and open air markets, the town also has many restaurants, cafes and sandwich places
- A welcome and farewell dinner banquet will be provided on Skopelos

Lodging

- In Athens, we will reserve roooms at the Plaka Hotel or similar place, single rooms are charged extra

- In Skopleos, all the participants stay at a large Greek home divided into many apartments. The terrace is spacious with spectauclar views. It is a 5 minute walk to the foundation and studios

Communcations

- The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts is equipped with wireless internet access. Telephones with good connections to the U.S. are on site. Emergency phone numbers will made available to all participants. International cell phones can be rented at the airport.
