V. Research and
Scholarship
A. Current Research Topics:
Librarianship: I am continuing
work on the following research topics:
·
Implementing Electronic Reserves and reassessing
bibliographic control of that material in the public catalog when moving away
from the paper system. NOTE: Serving as
guest editor & contributor for a 2005 issue of the Journal of
Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery & Electronic Reserves.
·
Customer service issues related to offsite storage. I drew ideas from the panel discussion at
Academic Library Association of Ohio-Collection Management Interest Group (ALAO-CMIG) Spring Workshop in 2002 and will
pursue this with changes taking place at the University of Toledo.
·
Examination of Promptcat record loading and the comparison
of true work between a more conservative and a more liberal setup insofar as
accepting records through this process.
Working with UT data from Spring, 2003.
·
Continued work on issues related to rolling out new services
for staff, faculty, students, and the community as a whole. The focus of this research and writing will
be in the area of internal and external communication.
Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
Research: I am working on the following research topics:
·
Continuing work of reviewing books on autism and autistic
spectrum disorders for Library Journal.
·
Developing a research project to assess and evaluate the
print resources available on ASD in American public libraries.
·
Development of the Guide to ASD resources (http://library.utoledo.edu/userhomes/cseeman/asd/index.html)
Sports History:
· I am exploring (with Tim Wiles from the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library) a “Minor League Reader” that would include material documenting Minor League Baseball and its cultural value in American sports history.
· I commenced work on a book-length history of the Midwest League, a professional baseball minor league that operates in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin from 1947 to the present. Also working on general research on minor league baseball in the twentieth century.
