Here's some photos from my Hawaii trip. (Sept. - Oct., 2000).

This is me and my niece standing on top of the tallest mountain in the world, Mauna Kea (13792 feet/4205m from sea level or 5.6 miles/9km from the sea floor) . That's Mauna Loa in the background.
This is Me and Jason standing in front of the twin Keck Observatories. I think that's the new Subaru Telescope to the left.
There was this cool little shrine (looking slightly battered by the wind) at the top where one could make offerings.
We watched the sun set. Totally awesome!

Here's a photo of Bennie taking a moment to contemplate the beauty of Green Sand Beach, which is by South Point (the southernmost point in the United States.
No, this isn't a photo of the surface of Venus, its actually the point where Kilauea's lava flow hits the ocean, and I'm standing on it (along with Kai, Jason and Ben). Note the lava falls in the background and the steam vapor pouring from the ocean. This was the most harrowing thing I've ever done. Standing directly above 2200º molten rock can make one a little edgy.
As we were watching the lava do its thing from a "safe" distance a flow opened up about 6 meters from us (or was it 4?). Look at how happy Kai and Ben look in the face of danger!
And a single shot of Kai too. What a trooper!
Here's a photo of Kalena's friends from the University: Malia and Aulii. Malia is helping Aulii make a fresh lei from fresh flora found in Kalena and Ben's back yard.
