This is me and my niece standing on top of the tallest mountain in the world, Mauna Kea (13792 feet/4205m from sea level or 5.6 miles/9km from the sea floor) . That's Mauna Loa in the background. |

There was this cool little shrine (looking slightly battered by the wind) at the top where one could make offerings. |

No, this isn't a photo of the surface of Venus, its actually the point where Kilauea's lava flow hits the ocean, and I'm standing on it (along with Kai, Jason and Ben). Note the lava falls in the background and the steam vapor pouring from the ocean. This was the most harrowing thing I've ever done. Standing directly above 2200º molten rock can make one a little edgy. |

As we were watching the lava do its thing from a "safe" distance a flow opened up about 6 meters from us (or was it 4?). Look at how happy Kai and Ben look in the face of danger! |

And a single shot of Kai too. What a trooper! |

Here's a photo of Kalena's friends from the University: Malia and Aulii. Malia is helping Aulii make a fresh lei from fresh flora found in Kalena and Ben's back yard. |
