I am Professor of Communication and Director of the Communication Program at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. I received my Doctorate from The Program in American Culture at the University of Michigan in 1997. Although my intellectual roots are in the study of film and television, I identify myself as a scholar of comics and communication. I wrote my dissertation on comic books. American comic books have been dominated by superheroes, and my work tries to figure out why.
