Another student in the lab is interested in how the brain's neurotransmitter systems, specifically acetylcholine, support attention. We are conducting parallel experiments in rats and humans in order to make better connections between systems and cognitive neuroscience work on this topic.

We have adapted a sustained attention task typically used in rats for experimentation in humans. We will manipulate acetylcholine function in both rats and humans and observe the effects on behavior during our sustained attention task and on brain function. We are also particularly interested in how distractors impact behavior on brain function.
