Travel
By Air
About ten airlines serve the Indianapolis International Airport; contact your preferred vendor for particular information. Taxis from the airport to the conference hotels will cost $20-25 each way, and a shuttle $10 each way. For specifics see http:// <http://toandfrom.org/airport/indiana.html/#IND> toandfrom.org/airport/indiana.html/#IND. The city bus costs $.75 or $1.00 during rush hours and works well enough, with a bit of a walk once downtown. Check at the Ground Transportation Center for schedules and stops. Having collected your bags, proceed just outside the terminal for a cab or to the Ground Transportation Center for a shuttle or city bus.

By Train (Amtrak) or Bus (Greyhound)
Trains to Indianapolis come and go at odd hours and are not recommended, regrettably. Express bus service, however, is available from major Midwest cities such as Chicago ($65 round-trip), Columbus, OH, Champaign-Urbana, IL, and Bloomington, IN. From the Greyhound terminal it is only a short cab ride to either meeting hotel..

Driving Directions
Indianapolis, for decades and until recently the demographic center of the nation, is at the intersection of four interstate highways, I-69 northeast to Fort Wayne and Michigan, I-65 south to Louisville and north to Chicago (via I-90/94), I-74 west to Champaign-Urbana and southeast to Cincinnati, and I-70 west to St. Louis and east to Columbus, OH. Driving time from Chicago and Columbus is 3 1/2 hours, Urbana 3, St Louis 4 1/2, Cincinnati 2, and Ann Arbor or Bowling Green about 6 hours.
See maps.

Parking
Free at conference hotels.

Cultural Attractions and Events

Go to www.aroundindy.com, scroll to the foot of the page, and seek pages 16-20.  Or, you can move directly to specific websites as suggested below.  The following events are recommended by local arrangements:

Then there’s another kaleidoscope of entertainment including live blues nightly at the Slippery Noodle Inn, since 1850 the oldest bar in Indiana (if at times sharing space now with a bordello, now with the Underground Railway); the Jazz Cooker café and live jazz; an IndySalsa Studio Party, the Crackers Comedy Club (nasty, delightful, a feeder for Second City in Chicago), or the Mystery Theatre at the Milano Inn, a well-done meal and interactive murder mystery.  Most of these are close to the meeting hotels, and some are an easy stroll.

Chapter Dinner
Local Arrangements suggests meeting for dinner at a downtown restaurant for those who can arrive in time. If you'd like to join the 7:30 party, notify Jim at jbriscoe@butler.edu.
