General Information
Mark your calendars for 24-25 March. The chapter's spring meeting will be held
in Grant Hall at the University
of Missouri--Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Grant Hall is located on
Holmes Street between 52nd and 53rd streets on the UMKC campus, It's official
address is 5280 Charlotte / Kansas City, MO 64410, but it is most easily found
between 52nd and 53rd Streets facing Holmes (although the address is on Charlotte--and
the address is for the back door to the building).. The UMKC campus is immediately
southeast of the famed Country Club Plaza shopping district (modelled after
Seville, Spain) and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
Registration
As always, registration for Chapter meetings is free to members in good standing--just
fill out a meeting registration form and pick up a nametag at the registration
table outside the meeting room. You may pay your dues to the Chapter treasurer

Travel
BY AIR
Flights to the Kansas City
International Airport are frequent and often comparatively inexpensive.
Transportation from the airport to the Plaza area is available from KCI Shuttle
(816-243-5000) and costs $14 one way or $23 roundtrip. Ticket desks are in every
terminal at KCI. An alternative service is Quicksilver Airport Service (913-262-0905)
at $23.50 each way (no roundtrip discount, reservations required). For more

BY TRAIN
Inexpensive train service is available to Kansas City
rom most cities in the Midwest. Check with your local station for times and
fares or visit Amtrak online.

FROM THE SOUTH
From the south: from I-470, take the Holmes Exit. Continue north on Holmes to
Baptist Memorial Hospital, veer to the right (follow the main traffic flow)
and get onto Rockhill Road. Continue on Rockhill to 52nd Street, turn left onto
campus, and left into the parking lot immediately before the dead end (Holmes).
FROM THE NORTH, EAST, & WEST
From I-70, take I-35 South. Take the Broadway exit and continue south. You will
pass through both the Westport and Country Club Plaza areas. At 47th Street
(Brush Creek Blvd.), turn left (east). Go past the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art,
and turn right (south) on Rockhill. At the fork, go to the right (there is a
sign posted), continue down Cherry Street, turn left on 52nd Street, right on
Holmes, and left on 53rd Street. Turn into the parking lot on the left. Grant
Hall will be immediately in front of you.
Parking
Free parking is available next to Grant Hall.
Cultural Events
Cultural offerings the weekend of the meeting include a production of Stravinsky's
The Rake's Progress by the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Performances are
March 23 at 8 p.m. and March 25 at 2 p.m. The event is part of Kansas City's
Stravinsky Festival. Tickets are available at 1-877-469-4467 [toll free].
Food
Both the Country Club Plaza and Westport areas have numerous dining and shopping
opportunities. Restaurants in the Plaza area include KC Masterpiece Barbeque,
Cheesecake Factory, P. F. Chang's Chinese Bistro, and others. Westport's offerings
include Californo's, a very enjoyable establishment that offers outdoor dining
depending upon the weather. Also in close proximity to campus is the Nelson-Atkins
Museum of Art. The museum hosts a very fine cafe. And yes, both the Plaza and
Westport have Starbuck's establishments.
Chapter Dinner
Barbeque is a must for those visiting Kansas City, so we'll head over to KC
Masterpiece Barbeque and Grill following the business meeting on Saturday for
cocktails and dinner begining at 5 p.m. It is close to UMKC. They will reserve
an area for 20 people (or more, if needed) at 5 p.m. They will serve the full
menu, and there are also vegetarian options on the menu. Each attendee is responsible
for the cost of his or her meal, drinks, tax, and tip.
