Meeting Website (under construction)

PROPOSAL DEADLINE: Sunday, August 16, 2009, 11:59 p.m. E.D.T.

Proposal Instructions
Proposals for presentations, special sessions, papers with a performance component, and panel discussions are welcome on any tpic related to musicology. Presentations will be limited to twenty minutes, with an additional ten minutes allotted for questions and discussion. An abstract of no more than 250 words should be submitted electronically or via U.S. mail (see instructions below). Abstracts should be concise but thorough and clearly indicate the scope, methodology, and original conclusions of the paper. Please include the proposal's title above the abstract text and indicate the author's name, mailing address, email address, phone number, institutional affiliation or place of residence at the top of the page. Indicate any audio-visual equipment needed at the bottom (following the abstract text).

Note: Preference will be given to proposals from individuals who have not read a paper at AMS Midwest within the year prior to the fall 2009 meeting (i.e., at the fall 2008 or spring 2009 meetings). The submission of an abstract presupposes that the proposer agrees to present the paper should the Program Committee accept it. It is also important that papers presented at Chapter meetings adhere to the topic and general argument proposed in the abstract.

See also the general guidelines for AMS Midwest paper proposals.

Panel and Performance Sessions
Panels encompassing aspects of a single topic, of up to one hour in length, and made up of two or thee participating speakers may be proposed. Although only one abstract is required (500-word maximum), it should contain a succinct description of each panelist’s contribution and state the time and audio-visual equipment required. Sessions including a performance should include a recording of the featured artists.

Student Papers, Travel Funding, and Prizes
Student submissions should be accompanied by a signed statement from the student’s advisor (or other faculty member from the home institution, as appropriate) to indicate faculty approval of the paper. These may be faxed to Elinor Olin at 224.233.2657 or emailed to amsmidwestpresident@umich.edu from the faculty member's institutional email address. Limited travel funds are available for students presenting papers at Chapter meetings (click here for details). Students wishing to compete for the annual prizes offered by Indiana University Press and A-R Editions for best student paper must submit three copies of the complete paper to the Program Committee no later than the meeting at which they read the paper. Winners of the awards will be announced after the year's spring meeting.
