Welcome to
The Hebrew Hangman Home Page
Introduction
Hi! Welcome to the Hebrew Hangman web page. Here you will find some information
on running Hebrew Hangman and, of course, links to the applet and to any software
you might need to load onto your computer before running the applet.
Information
Hebrew Hangman is based on the standard Hangman game but uses
Hebrew letters and words instead of English. The game was designed for
non-Hebrew computers; thus, the program does not rely on the presence
of Hebrew fonts nor on the Unicode capability of the computer, instead using
Hebrew letter graphics.
Before You Run Hebrew Hangman
Mac OS
Macintosh users cannot use Netscape Communicator 4.72 and below due to its
pathetic support for Java on the Mac; instead, use
Internet Explorer or the beta
versions of iCab (a new Mac-only browser) or
Netscape 6.0
Users of Mac OS 8.1 and below must download
Macintosh Runtime for Java (MRJ). Version 2.2 is currently available and
works quite nicely, thank you. Mac OS 8.5 and higher installs a new-enough version
of MRJ and can bypass this step.
Finally, all Mac users must install the Java Swing libraries to use Hebrew Hangman.
First, download it, then drag the
swingall.jar file to the following location:
Startup Drive: System Folder: Extensions: MRJ Libraries: MRJClasses
Now restart your machine.
Windows and Unix
Personally, I'm not a big Windoze fan, but you folks, as well as the Unix folks
out there, can use Hebrew Hangman too thanks to the wonders of Java's cross-platform
nature. You'll need either
Java 1.2 along with the Java 1.2 plugin
for your web browser, or you'll need Java 1.1.8 with the
Swing libraries.
Follow the included instructions to install the necessary components.
