I've made several trips to Leavenworth as part of the K.U. Defender Project. I was providing legal assistance to inmates at the penitentiary. I think the Hardeman/Burnett history is fascinating. I have a friend in Sacramento this week who is going to try to find a copy of the portrait they have at the statehouse of Peter H. Burnett. I'm writing a book on my line of Burnetts, and his history is pretty interesting. By the way, that line was also apparently related to Cole Younger, the outlaw. :-) Kevin, Thanks for your response. I mentioned my Kansas history because it seemed ironic that I logged onto a site to start checking on family history and found you attending law school not far from where I used to live and go to school. I used to visit Lawrence to see the K.U. relays which at that time, and may still be, one of the premier track venues in the country. I didn't realize there was a portrait of Peter Burnet in Sacramento. I might be mistaken, but I think there is a portrait of him at the old (original) statehouse in Benecia, CA. My wife and I visited it years ago. As I recall the docent explained the reason Peter was covering his hand was because of an injury. Not sure if he said it was amputated. Is the Cole Younger link with Sydner S. Younger married (about 1830) to George William Burnett? Do you have any other info on her; what was her relationship to Cole Younger? I haven't finished going through all the compilations (getting close though). Do you have any info or where I can find info on the ancestors of Peter's grandfather, James? Thanks, Rod ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 16:08:34 -0400 From: "_Mitosis_" To: "Robert K Lavender" , "Rena Worthen" , "Peter ^R" , "Pat W" , "Nyla C" , "Nettie" , "List Turner" , "List Patrick" , "List Franklin" , "List Floyd" , "List Btrvetc" , "List Bedford" , , "June BB" , "Judith P" , "James R Lavender" , "Eunice_17" , "Ellen B" , "Donna BW" , "Dan C" , "Barb Stanley" , "Anita T" , "Allen R" Subject: New Virus Message-ID: <002a01becd6b$a68ff6c0$90f3e4ce@mitosis> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit New version of the Melissa virus has been discovered, W97M.Melissa.M.
