You always kept your bags packed Although you had no fame, and Just for the fun of it Twice you changed your name. You never owed any man, or At least I found no bills In spite of eleven offspring You never left a will. They say our name's from Europe Came state side on a ship Either they lost the passenger list Or granddad gave them the slip. I'm the only one that's looking Another searcher I can't find I play (maybe that's his fathers name) As I go out of my mind. They said you had a headstone In a shady plot I've been there twenty times, and Can't even find the lot. You never wrote a letter Your Bible we can't find It's probably in some attic Out of sight and out of mind. You first married a..........Smith And just to set the tone The other four were Sarahs And everyone a Jones. You cost me two fortunes One of which I did not have My wife, my house and Fido God, how I miss that yellow lab. But somewhere you slipped up, Ole Boy, Somewhere you left a track And If I don't find you this year Well..........Next year I'll be back. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 16:19:49 EST From: RAGLADY@aol.com To: BOONE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: KeyBoard Tips for those *strange* signs Message-ID: <8b7735fb.37029175@aol.com> Content-type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: quoted-printable Hi All: Found one of my "notes to self". Been meaning to pass along a couple of keyboard tips, but just forgot. No wonder I have a hard time finding ancestors. Hope this isn't too *off topic*; it is really useful for genealogy. Some may already know these, but for those that don't, they can be very useful. These are for making some of those 'strange' letters you run into= .In all cases, you hold down the ALT key, while entering the +(plus sign) a= nd numerical sequence "from the keyboard pad"; then release. Make sure your = NUM lock is on. Alt=09=09+20 =3D =09=B6 "=09=09+21 =3D =09=A7 "=09=09+137 =3D=09=EB "=09=09+138 =3D=09=E8 "=09=09+145 =3D=09=E6 "=09=09+155 =3D=09=A2 "=09=09+156 =3D=09=A3=09same thing w/Alt+0163 =3D =A3 **The ever popular *= pound* sign "=09=09+167 =3D=09=BA (degree mark) "=09=09+171 =3D=09=BD "=09=09+172 =3D=09=BC "=09=09+0137 =3D =89 (0/percent) "=09=09+0153 =3D =99 (trademark) "=09=09+0156 =3D =9C "=09=09+0169 =3D =A9 (copyright) "=09=09+0190 =3D =BE The above are just of a few of the ones I have found helpful. They can be created in word processing documents, e-mail and genealogy program notes sections. Many thanks for the listing of the special signs/marks. I have never seen such a listing on anybody's page or article before. I am sure they will be useful to many people.
