Thought, well, this couldn't happen in my tree! Humm... further research shows I have forms of abbrev format in my database... plus a few of unknown orgin. A thought to ponder. ============== "Another thing. I do not use the abbreviated abbreviations for state names. I am from Arkansas and have had AR mistaken for Arizona. I have also seen LA mistaken for Los Angeles. Someone a hundred years in the future might not make those errors but they can't know I didn't. I'm not sure this is the correct Email address to send general posts to or not. Although I've been online for over a year, I'm new to the mail list type of thing... I'm very interested in any information I can learn about the Rough and Ready Mill. I'd like to find out if anyone has any information or even a timeline would be great for grist mills in Virginia. The more I research my own family line I've found that my G-Great Grandfather, his father and his grand father were all involved in the milling business. I don't know right off if they owned or just operated the various mills. Here is a rundown on those folks as well as one of my aunts way back married into the Turner family. .... William Thomas Eddy b. 1799 married Nancy Mason, she was born in 1806. William was listed as a miller in the 1810 Mongalia county census. Their children: Charles Eddy b. 1825 Mary Eddy b. 1827 Elizabeth Eddy b. 1828 John Eddy b. 1837 Lucy Eddy b. 1846 Nancy E. Eddy b. 1848 Thomas Daniel Eddy b. April 1841. He was married but divorced. I don't have her name. William M. Eddy b. 1830 or 31 married Elvira (Elmira) Mariah Jenkins b. Oct. 4, 1837. They were married in Franklin county and is recorded i the marriage bonds 1854-1858 Reel 57. The 1860 Franklin county census has him listed as a miller as well. I also found where father and son were aparently both working two separate mills...one in Boutetourt county and the other in Franklin county. William and Elvira's children: John Henry Eddy b. June 14,1857 d. Oct. 27, 1903 married Nannie Emma McGhee Dec. 22, 1881. John Henry Eddy lived at and operated the mill with his Uncle Thomas Daniel Eddy. A post office was operated from the mill I believe.. it closed in 1906. Reed Creek church is where they are buried, it's an old Quaker style church. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't Quakers. I haven't been able to connect them to the Massachusetts Eddy's who were supposedly the first Eddy's in America. Reed Creek can be reached by leaving Roanoke and traveling through Rocky Mount. It lies somewhere between Rocky Mount and Martinsville, Va. Mary Lucy Eddy b. June 1, 1859 married W.G. Turner Alice S. Eddy b. June 23, 1862 married ______ Hurd Ella Eddy b.___? married ______ Stultz Sorry if this is a little confusing here. I'm new at communicating geaneologies. So I'll take criticisms well.... oh and pardon the spellings... If anybody sees any connections here, with a little more trouble I can give a more detailed list. Thanks Folks!!! I am a newcomer to the whole genealogy business but I believe my Packwood relatives fit into the Samuel Packwood (b.1745) and Elizabeth Turner family. My grandmother, Jessie, is a Packwood by birth. Her grandfather was Samuel B. Packwood (b. 1827 Indiana, m. Nancy Gleason). Samuel B., was possibly the first son of William Packwood and Jane Shoemaker. I'd love to swap Packwood stories with other Packwood researchers and hopefully determine where in England they came from? Do you have anything farther back on these 2 ladies? Parents of them at least? I have cousins who live on the property where stood Byrd's Mill at Glade Hill, VA on the Pigg river. Mill is long gone, but the road kept the name. The Byrd family is buried along the road just at their driveway. I have much family in Franklin Co. and own a piece of ground there near the community of Henry, Franklin Co. Very interested in these 2 folks, the McGhee connection is a sure bet to be kin to me.
