The next digest that goes out should reflect these changes. To retrieve previous digests as plain text, follow these instructions: To: btrvetc-d-request@genealogy.org Subject: archive Message: get archive/volume98/1 Note: do not send anything but commands in your message or the software will try to interpret them and send you a "Gee, I don't understand what you want" type message. :-) You can put more than one "get" request in the message, but put them on different lines, like: get archive/volume98/1 get archive/volume98/2 get archive/volume98/3 Hope the change in the digest helps! I am particularly interested in a William Turner in Ala. He married Elizabeth Miller. They are my great- grandparents. My mother who is 80 years of age cannot help me any on their lineage. William and Elizabeth had a son, Rufus, born Feb. 23, 1875 in Houston Co., Al. He married Mallie Smith whose father was Bass Smith. Rufus and Mallie had 11 children, one being my mother, Nora Turner Hanners. I would really appreciate any information you or anyone can give me. I must say, I never realized there were sooooo many Turners. Many thanks for all the info I read on the internet of the Turner family. I just hope some of them are who I am looking for. The spelling of the family name changed from Brassier(3generations) to Brashears for Elizabeth and her 7 siblings. Her father, Benois Brassier, and his brother Robert came from France and settled in Calvert Co., MD. ============================================================================ Husband: John Turner Married: 1-Jul-1718 in: Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George Co. Y/N: Y ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Born: ca 1690 in: Lands End, Cornwall, England Died: ca 1742 in: Caroline Co., VA Father: Richard Turner Mother: ? unknown Elizabeth d. about 1744. Whether Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego were actually sons of John Turner or were even born in Caroline County, Virginia is still unsubstantiated. What is known however is that Shadrack and Meshack were brothers. Some people claim to have extended the family line further. Researchers making the connection to Richard and to the children below base their work on information taken from the Caroline County, Virginia Order Book from 1744. Based on the assumption that John died before the 1742 probate of Richard Turner's estate, the death of his wife around 1744 resulted in their children being assigned to a guardian. The 1744 Order Book lists Meshack, Abednego, Sarah, Elizabeth and Ann with guardianships. It is supposed that Shadrach would already have been 16 at the time and no longer needing a guardian. ============================================================================ M Child 1 Shadrach Turner Born: cir 1720 in: England? Virginia? Died: 1783 in: Henry Co., VA Spouse: Ann Hill Married: abt 1745 in: Virginia Marr. Ceremony? Y/N: Y It is believed that Shadrach was over 16 years of age when his father died, and had already been given a share of land or money. This was customary at that time in history, when under the English law, the elder son always enherited his father's estate. On the 19th of Feb., 1753, Shadrach filed claim to 400 acres of land in, what is today, Pittsylvania County, VA. The land was located on the upper banks of Great Cherrystone Creek. ------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- M Child 2 Meshach Turner Born: abt 1725 in: Virginia Died: in: Wilkes Co., GA Spouse: Rebecca Robertson Married: 6-Feb-1760 in: Halifax Co., VA Marr.
