Oral history says they came from Patrick County, Virginia. John disappeared from the tax rolls in 1843, his wife then appeared. In the 1850 census in Floyd County, Kentucky Nancy was shown in the household of a son. I was wondering if somewhere there is information as to a John Turner and Nancy Burnett leaving that general area. Your letter and info on WFT has sent me back in my files to go over the information I have on the Perchments and Ambersons. I am still in that process and am not as sure as I was about Mary Elizabeth being the daughter of Peter Perchment. She could only have been the daughter of Peter, John or Phillip. Those are the three brothers who are progenitors of all the Parchmans ( and Parchments and Perchments) in this country. She was clearly in the second generation. Peter did have a daughter named Mary who I thought would be the one. The problem is that Mary apparently married a man named Hugh Forsyth according to documents I have. (I will send them to you when I finish scanning and correcting mistakes the scanner made.) John clearly did not have a daughter named Mary - John left a will. Phillip may have had a daughter named Mary and some of his children did end up in Mississippi and that was the one branch of the family that tended to use Parchman as opposed to Parchment or Perchment. I only have names of sons and they were born within the same time frame as Mary. The problem with that is that I pretty much know all the Ambersons at the time - they were even more sparce than Parchmans in the country - and James of Butler County - brother of my ancestor - is probably the only person that the spouse of Mary could be. Phillip Parchman left PA for the south before James or Mary were born and it would not have been easy for James and Mary to have gotten together. Their parents would have known each other well earlier in their lifes, but that distance was surely a barrier to romance in those days. Also, it is established that two of Peter Perchment's children married two siblings of James. I don't know what to think right now. I shall study some more. I will send a GEDCOM and related files in a few days when I get everything together and as straight as possible in my own mind. The information you sent was all on the WFT CD that you submitted. I surely would appreciate knowing if June Bork can shed any light on this. I do understand that this is not a main branch of your family and appreciate the time you spent to respond. Pat Kevin K.
