Did John M. Turner Jr marry 2x, once to Sallie then to Nancy? >> Gloria, Lets see if I can answer your questions.... There are two John TURNERs and there has been a lot of confusion of their families. Below you will find my latest understandings of these lines and the reasons why. I do not know who Sally Burnett's parents are. David n4jed@aol.com Descendants of John TURNER , Rev. First Generation 1. John TURNER , Rev. was born 20 Sep 1789 in Henry Co., VA. He died 20 May 1874 in Patrick Co., VA and was buried in Lackey - Turner, Cemetery, Patrick Co., VA. John and Nancy moved from Henry County to Patrick County, Virginia about 1828. John was a Primitive Baptist preacher along with his brother Elkanah. When the church split about 1850, John went with the missionary wing of the Baptist church. He served as a Civil Magistrate in Patrick County, Virginia prior to 1850. John owned as many as 12 slaves. John served a term as an Ensign during the War of 1812 and was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia. The listed birth and death dates above come from the tombstone where John is buried. His grandson - William Turner - writing in 1914 listed John's birth as September 21, 1779 and his death as May 20, 1874. There remains confusion as to the children of Rev.
