I have so much to be thankful for that I hardly know where to begin. One of my blessings of the past year has been this list. I've met so many wonderful "cousins" as a result of my interest in genealogy. The folks on the list have been very generous in sharing information. I realize the amount of time each of you has been spent over the years researching your family lines. I am convinced that the more we give to others, the more we receive in return. No way I can measure the gratitude I have to each of you for sharing information on your family. May God richly bless you this coming year. I hope each of you find that missing link to the next generation. Be sure to check out Chris Gaunt's homepage for all our compilations: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~cgaunt Nyla ====================================================================== Date: 26 Nov 96 22:29:12 EST From: K Young <102125.3126@CompuServe.COM> To: Nyla Creed DePauk Subject: Thank you! Nyla, Just a quick word to thank you for your relentless posting of Turner information! This stuff is incredibly wonderful! I am now months behind in data input! I would have posted mine, but I now suspect I have some real errors in my early genealogy. If my suspicions turn out to be correct, my info will be different from David Jones's, but I have to get myself to the Regional Nat'l Archives to find the final proof. So, for now, I have stopped releasing mine, but only until I can get it straightened out. I'll let you know what I find! Kirkman" Subject: The two Turner Families There were two distinct Turner families in this area in the 1700s. One family was what we refer to as the 'Francis Turner line,' the other as the 'Shadrach line.' Francis moved into Patrick County from Augusta, he was the son of James Turner, a very famous and charismatic preacher in that vicinity. Their progenitors came over from England. Shadrach Turner, the first, moved into Franklin County from ??, he was the son of one John Turner, their progenitors from Scotland. I believe it might be useful to send a couple of generations of the James Turner line. Over the years, many have confused tht two lines, crediting children to the wrong one. I am a Gilley descendant, and most of my info comes from a cousin, Alva Turner, of Ina, Illinois, who researched his family for many years before he passed away in 1952. ---------------------------------------------- 1. Mr. Turner was a descendant of James Turner and states that this Turner line came from England. Further states that he knew nothing of Shadrach Turner, other than he "might have come from Scotland." Our goal is to exchange information, not get hung up on format. Actually, my own personal favorite is one that probably breaks every rule for numbering and proper genealogical format. The various software programs that are on the market print out the information in proper formats, if that appeals to you. -- Nyla ======================================================= Date: Sat, 23 Nov 1996 15:32:56 -0800 From: R/P Turner Reply-To: turner@mind.net To: ncreed Subject: Turner Nyla, Thought I'd try again! This list showed that a Charles Burnett (#21 on the list) was born 1743/1745 and died about 1810. He was reported to be the son of Jeremiah Burnett, Sr (#14 on the list). I am looking for source information on this connection. Charles is not listed in this family in June Bork's book, Vol 1. I do not have Vol. 2 and 3. I am also looking for confimation/source that Joseph Burnett (#20 on the list) is the son of this same Jeremiah Burnett, Sr.. June Bork (page 113, Vol. 1) says that she could not say with certainity that Joesph's father was Jeremiah. Does anyone have source data on this part of the BURNETT family? Your compilations are great and helping many people. A gold star for your work. Burnett. The item was about a land contest case involving John and the land he had staked in the OK Land Run. It is 1 1/2 pages long when printed out. I would like to sent it to you to look at and decide if you think it would be something that would be of interest to the readers of Burnett/Turner newsletter or if it is too lengthy. A woman who takes care of the Sumner Co. KS web page ask me to send her a copy to post in Who's Who, if you think it would be something for the Burnett/Turner newsletter I will also send you a copy. John J. Burnett is a descendant of John>Jeremiah>Isaac>Cornelius>Cornelius Burnett of VA. Also I would like to express how much I have enjoyed the Burnett/Turner newsletter. After a hospital stay I have been home bound and not able to drive any place to do my research, my husband realizing I needed a genealogy fix : ) had my computer hooked up to an online service. I have never had anybody that interested in my Burnett research and was very excited when I found the Burnett/Turner page. Hopefully in another two weeks I will be able to continue my genealogy quest but I going to keep my computer online so I will be able to visit and read my Burnett/Turner newsletter. Sharon Burnett Crawford, Guthrie, OK - scburn2@juno.com ============================================================== SHARON: I received the above message tonight. Can't imagine where it has been for over a week. I believe you already sent me the newspaper article. If you have a different one, send it my way. Those are real treasures to find. Hope you are feeling up to speed these days, and trust all the Burnett/Turner information that has been shared recently was a big genealogy fix for you. Glad you're enjoying the mailing list. Is there a standardized way of doing it that I've not been exposed to? I have copies of source documents on most of my Kentucky research, but don't get how to reference it. Is it a standard footnote system, or something else? By the way...I've located a copy of the 1820 court entry I referred to earlier linking my family to Pittsylvania County, Virginia...I am going to have the will and the deed researched to get the exact connection. This will hopefully be the final link to the rest of the Burnett's in my line clear back to Scotland! Let me know what you need in the way of reference #'s, footnotes, etc., and I'll send you what I have soon. :) Kevin Stephenson ========================================================= HELP! CAN SOMEONE HELP KEVIN WITH THE NUMBERING SYSTEMS AND REFERENCES NUMBERS? I recall seeing articles onLine explaining the various systems. There must be an expert (or semi-expert) on our list who can answer his questions. KEVIN: If you have info to share with us, don't get hung up on the format for our mailing list. We're interested in the information. I use Family Tree Maker software, which prints the information in the correct formats. Several different types of reports are available. I'm sure other folks use different software which they are happy using. Just wish I had used a good genealogy software years ago rather than putting so much information in a word processing document. I have about 600 pages of text that I need to add to FTM. We live and learn. --- NYLA =============================================== The end of this compilation.
