Several people have asked about an early listing I had of a James BURNETT in Virginia.. Following is the information and the sources. Harden STOVALL This information was compiled by Mrs. William Day Dickinson of Glasgow, Kentucky and appears in the book "The Burnett Family" by Charles Howard Burnett of California - a copy of which was in the Patrick County Public Library in Stuart Virginia in 1978. All the above is from the 1978 program of the Patrick-Henry Allied Families of Virginia, Inc. annual meeting. Hope this is of some help. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this as I have not followed up any of this family. While time may be infinite, my available waking hours are not.... As far as Peter H. goes, I'm not sure there's a connection yet...I talked to a cousin who still lives in Shelbyville Kentucky, (a son of a James Cunningham Burnett, about the sixth or seventh) and he claims that my ancestry was traced through a Thomas Burnett, rather than George, and he's supposed to be sending me the stuff on it. When it gets here, I'm going to send Nyla the family rundown on my side all the way back, so anyone who's looking for someone in this line can check it out. I can download attachments, and I have paf and gedcom translation capabilities, so please send me anything you think I might be able to use, and I'll do likewise... I'll be sending the Burnett side to Nyla, including Civil War records/stories/etc. when I can in the next few days. Thanks again for your help, Sharon!! :) Kevin Stephenson kevin2@falcon.cc.ukans.edu ================================================================ At 08:27 PM 11/10/96 -0500, you wrote: >Nyla >Allen Richmond (Whaley Search Party genealogical group) gave me your >address as I found a Jones-Bennett family bible at an antiques show. >It says Mary Ann JOnes (1801-1867) who married Gabriel Bennett (1797- >1870) in 1829. Boy, did I get excited, for a second. I have a Mary Jones (1803) who married a Bennett Creed. Unfortunately, the information you have is for the Bennett surname. My Creeds came out of Orange Co VA, instead of Orange Co NY. Can you believe? Well, my dear Mary Jones has been a mystery for me since 1960. My dad didn't know her parents, and I've yet to find them, 36 years later. I will add your message to our Burnett-Turner-Ross-Via-Etc/Etc compilations. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the right person would see the message? I'm also interested in obtaining more information on the Burnetts. My great grandmother was Sarah Ann Burnett. Her father, Joseph Marion Burnett, I believe to be the grandson of John D. Burnett. Kevin told me that there are about 41 compilations of data archived at your site. Please let me know how to access the data. Thanks!!
