I've got Burnett ancestors in North Carolina (ALSO or ALCEY BURNETT born Approx. 1800) who marries NANCY (born approx 1805) who ultimately settle in Indiana and Michigan. One of their Children (WILLIAM ELDRIDGE BURNETT) is my great grandfather. My inquiry is whether Also's wife Nancy, could possibly be NANCY SHOPE of Virginia who's name I found on the IGI. It lists NANCY SHOPE as marrying both a JOHN HUGHES and also an ELDRIDGE BURNETT but the IGI didn't state approx. time of either marriage. If I could determine approx. year of marriage, I could better verify whether SHOPE was Nancy's maiden name. Their children were: Abraham H. (born 1831 in NC) Jane (born 1832 in NC) Levi Burnett aka William Rhoades (born 1833 in NC) Elias (born 1835 in NC) Mary Ann (born 1840 in IND) Nancy Ann (born 1842 in IND) Aaron (born 1844 in IND) Thomas (born 1846 in IND) William (born 1848 in IND) Lucitte(?)(born 1850 in IND) Zacariah (born 1852 in IND) Thank you very much. If there's any other information that I should have included, please let me know. Jeanne DiConti ============================ Jeanne: I can't answer your question, but I did find a couple marriage records that look interesting. Alcey Burnett and Nancy Burnett m on 26 Jan 1825 in Orange Co NC Eldridge Burnett m Sarah Harrison on 29 Feb 1832 in Rutherford Co NC Nyla ===================== Hi Nyla- Thanks very much for responding so quickly to my inquiry. We have a copy of the first marriage bond you mentioned--that of Alcey & Nancy Burnett, and our best guess is that they are one and the same as "my" Also and Nancy Burnett. We were just hoping we could either verify or disprove Nancy's maiden name. Someone said I should check DAR records for North Carolina, or should check the Shope family organization records. Thank you very much for your time and your offer to check on other info. Have a good rest of the weekend. Does anyone know anything about: 1. Roderick Ross m. Helen. Parents of Daniel Ross, Sr. (I am assuming they were from Scotland) 2. Daniel Ross Sr. was born November 9, 1740 in Cromarty, Scotland. He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Garth. One of their daughters was Sarah "Sallie" Ross. 3. Sarah "Sallie" Ross was born about 1765, probably in Louisa County, VA. "Sallie" married a James Cox. Their children were born in Franklin Co., VA I hope that the way I asked these questions was not too confusing. In compliation 318, A Daniel Ross, Jr.was mentioned. Was he born in June 1777? If so, he is the brother of Sarah "Sallie" Ross that I mentioned above. Thanks! Kimberly Burnette burnette@roanoke.infi.net ===================== Subj: Comp #317 Author? Could I please sign up? I am looking for the Burnettes who lived in Bessemer, Jefferson County, AL during the early 1900s (and perhaps before). Specifically, I'm looking for the ancestors of Henry Clay Burnette, born Dec 16 1909 in Bessemer, AL, died Apr 25 1961 in Norfolk, VA. His siblings were Regina, Alice, Frances, Ida, Frank, Donald, David, James, and Tom. Thus far, we've only been able to trace my husband's line back to his grandfather. I'm hoping someone on your list is a long-lost cousin. Thanks, Julie Matthews Burnette Germantown, MD julie-mike@erols.com ============================ The end of this compilation.
