At least not my John Turner. On the 1860 Upshur Co. Texas he had two Irish men living in the house with him. The men from Ireland were carpenters. Does this give you any ideas? His wife Martha was not on that census altho she could have lived in one of the other houses he owned that was close by the "Turner Homestead". and she was kindly treated in his Probate will. I have been looking for some of the Turner books and I'm having trouble coming up with a list of them. Is there such a list? Can you suggest a book on GA genealogy that is on Turners or could some of the readers suggest a place on the net to look for such publications? I'd want to bet all of these Turners are related somehow but finding the link is the problem. I find certain names is every generation. Mary and John are the two most used. If this is the case would you expect to find Catholic background? What are your thoughts? Thanks Penny pennym@bmi.net ============================================================================ PENNY: In one of the compilations, there's a listing of Turner genealogy books. Check Chris Gaunt's homepage for our compilations. There is a search capability. Sorry, but I don't recall which compilation has all the books with Turner genealogy. As to the names Mary and John indicating Catholic background. I descend through the Reverend John Turner who was a Baptist minister. He had a son John who was the mother of my great-grandmother Mary Jane (Turner) Dickens. Mary Jane was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. We don't know when Sarah (sometimes called Sally) was born, when she died or where she is buried. Carl is James's great great grand son. Thanks for your help. I find the census with John listed first and then Elizabeth. Ages 48 and 43 respectively. My first thoughts were Elizabeth maybe died and that was why John moved his family to Texas. The name Martha which is in the will and probate record, just doesn't go with Elizabeth. It also said Elizabeth was from NC. Why is that not surprising. Give me your thoughts or ideas on this matter. You might also want to check the previous compilations that have been archived at: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~cgaunt/etc/etc.html Since they are so intertwined with other families from the southwest VA area, you will find other surnames in the compilations as well. There is a very crude search engine (seems only to check one word) which might help to find the info you need.
