Jonas Byrd, Jr., 1822. They lived in and around Emanuel Co., GA, and, although it's reported they also lived in Coffee, Clinch, and Telfair Co.s, I have reason to believe they didn't move, but rather the county boundaries changed. They are believed to be buried in Clinch Co., GA. Their children were: Wiley, Winnifred, Sophronia, William Arlington, Anthony, and Jesse -- all last name Byrd. My husband is descended from William Arlington Byrd, b. 11Sept. 1833, Emanuel Co., GA., son of Jonas & Rebecca. Wm. m. Narcissus Stanfield, b. 1840, Ware Co., GA, daughter of Jehu & Elizabeth Stanfield, all of GA. Wm. & Narcissus had 10 children: Bedorah, Jehu, Emma, Martha, Wm. Henry, Elias, Sherod Anthony, Remer, Clifton Morgan, Miriam Clementine. My husband is descended from Sherod Anthony (his grandfather). Son Jehu of Wm. & Narcissus had a daughter named Blanche. Blanche's daughter, Kathryn Victoria Bond married a Mr. Partin of FL. If there are any like surnames out there -- help!! We are at a real stumper on the ancestors of Jonas and Rebecca. The info we have is flawed -- not hard to realize since there were so many William Byrds out there! Every time we think we have Jonas, Jr.'s grandfather, it turns out to be the wrong one. The info found in "Pioneers of Wiregrass GA" is incorrect, so can't use that. Thanks. I am a year young grandmother, who likes to preserve all sorts of old things. I loved hearing about the old Turner House because I am a when I am not engrosed in genealogy research which I have been doing on and off for the last 15 years (I guess that makes me a serious amateur) and live in an old MS "dog-trot" house built c 1835. I am terribly stumped on my Turner line and would appreciate what your readers may have to offer. There is so much unconfirmed in my earliest information that I have been hesitant to send it in, but with that qualification, here it is: James Turner from VA c 1730 to 1740 , moved into NC, and by the Revolution was in Union Dist. SC. Known children: 1. James b 1758 likely VA d Morgan Co Ga 1828 (left a will) m Elizabeth Baker b 1762 d 1850 Henry Co. GA 2. Butler b ? d 1808 Jasper Co. GA 3. William b 1768 probably in NC (lived in Henry co. Ga in 1840, age 72) 4. Unknown brother b c 1750's (my ancestor) 5. Mary b 1757 VA d Chambers Co. AL 1851 m Thomas Trammell in 1775 in Union Dist. SC (lived in Greene later Hancock Co. GA in 1789) 6. Susannah b c1755 m Martin Hammond. (Martin died in Hancock County Ga 1796 where the other men named above were at his estate sale.) Susannah m 2nd _____ Hitchcock. James Turner was in Greene County Ga by 1789 living next door to Thomas Trammell. I am not sure, but the father James may also have had a brother named William who came to Ga with him. I know this is a strange way to make a request, but I have had to track the family because I cannot figure out the name of the unknown brother listed above. That unknown Turner was the father of my ancestor Edward b 1778 in SC. I think Edward's father must have died before the rest of the family came to GA, possibly even in the Revolution. I know James SR. was from VA and I know they passed through NC on the way to Union Dist. SC before 1775 when Mary was married there. And I know James, SR was in Greene Co. GA (later a part of Hancock [from deeds]) with many of them after the Revolution. I also know what I have is a bit confusing, so if any clarification is needed, I hope someone will ask. Now on to my line: Edward Turner b 1778 in SC m Mary Melvin was in Hancock County Ga by 1803. I believe Edward is the son of the Unknown Turner above and the grandson of James Turner of VA. Edward may have had a brother named Larkin Turner b 1778 SC d 1878 Meriwether Co. GA m Leah unknown b 1783 MD Edward and Mary's children are: Reuben (not verified)b 1799 SC m Mary unknown James C. b 1800 SC m Nancy unknown (my direct line) Mary Turner b 1802 d 1855 Meriwether Co. GA (never married) Elisha b 1803 GA m Lucinda Wesley in Newton Co. GA (her letters written in 1864 mention the Old Man Edward who was living with them in 1850 in Meriwether Co.Ga) Shadrack b 1808 GA m Elizabeth unknown b GA Absalom b 1810 GA d 1855 Meriwether Co. GA m Mary Glass Edward C. Turner b c 1816 GA m in 1844 Martha Lewis Daniel Clark b 1820 GA d 1908 TX m in 1847 Rebecca Meador Harris Clark (not verified) Thanks for your wonderful work. Date: 97-11-15 20:00:23 EST From: madamx@trellis.net (Jeannie) Dear group, Although I've been doing genealogy for something like 5 years, I've managed to avoid land transactions until recently. Now I'm trying to learn more about how they work. Here is a particular transaction. Henry Co. 10-5-1780 Susanna Reynolds rcvd 38 acres as a grant or patent. I have a list of these types of transactions, and very few seem to be with women. Does this mean that Susanna is likely a widow? Here is why I wonder. My John Clark Sr. md. a Susanna Reynolds. My John Clark Jr. was born c 1790. In Patrick County marriage records, there is an entry for Polly Reynolds, dau. of Susanna CLARK marrying Henry Chiles in 1794. This most certainly MUST be my Susanna Reynolds, which means that either she had Polly out of wedlock before she married my John Clark, or that she married a Reynolds and had at least one child, Polly, before marrying my John Clark. That is why it is so important to me to know whether this Susanna Reynolds receiving land via grant or patent was probably a widow, and if so, what are some of the reasons she might have rcvd it? I sure do hope someone out there can give me advice on this, as my Clark line is VERY frustrating!!! Thanks so much!!!
