Nyla CREED DePauk San Diego, CA ====================== Subj: To Sherry (HarrisSEM@aol.com) Date: 97-11-08 18:44:49 EST From: madamx@trellis.net (Jeannie) Sherry, Thanks so much for posting the Rakes info. I'm going over it right now. So far I haven't found many discrepencies, but what few I have are not well sourced on my part, so I changed them to match your info. If I find one that is a serious discrepency and I feel like my source is an excellent one, I'll let you know about it so that we can discuss it further. I gather info from every place I can get it, like Nyla said, even notes on the back of an envelope are worth taking a look at, hehe. But I have learned to document my sources well, noting them as secondary, good, and excellent, and when I find a discrepency, I depend on that to help me to decide which is more likely to be the correct info with the hopes that later on I will find a primary source to verify it. Note to all: Anytime I submit info to the group and you have questions about it, please ask me for my sources. I don't include them on a regular basis in my submissions because of the space they take up. However, on my web site, which needs updating, source information is included in an abbreviated state. Thanks to all of you for all the great info you've submitted. I'm way behind in sorting it all out :) Jeannie _____ Jeannie (aka Madam X) http://www.trellis.net/users/madamx ***The truth is out there...can you help me find it?*** Access my database of over 7000 names directly from my site or via Gendex. I would like to add a correction to comp 202B. I believe there is confusion regarding the "wives" and "children" of Lewis Turner #78 file 881. Comp 202B Revised shows Lewis Turner, son of Jeremiah and Rachel Ross Turner, as marrying 1)Cynthia Foster -882 and 2)Lucretia ____-6668. Lewis Turner, son of Jeremiah and Rachel Ross Turner did not marry 2)Lucretia ____. Lewis who married Cynthia Foster and the Lewis Turner who married Lucretia are two different people. Documentation is as follows: The 1850 census of Patrick County, VA listed three(3) Lewis Turners. In 1850 we have: Lewis Turner 54 Blacksmith b. abt 1794 Ann 32 Jeremiah 24 This Lewis Turner was the son of Jeremiah and Rachel Ross Turner, and married Cynthia Foster. Patrick Co.,VA Death Records show Lewis Turner's death date as 24 Nov 1885. Death record lists consort as Cynthia (although she had previously died), and the informant was H.H. Hall, Sr., son-in-law. Lewis and Cynthia Foster Turner had the following children: Ann Turner- b 24 Oct 1818 marr Blann Hall Xeony Turner-b 30 Jan 1822 marr H.H. Hall Jeremiah Turner-29 Nov 1826 marr Martha Jane Turner Rachel Turner b. 29 Nov 1825 d Jan 1826 * Note: This couple did not have a child Mary -6669 who married Michael Cassell-6670 Documentation will follow The second Lewis Turner listed in the 1850 Census of Patrick Co., VA shows: Lewis Turner 65 Lewresey 52 Susan 21 Louisa 18 Bartlett 16 John 14 Myres 12 Jackson 10 James 8 Salley 6 As you can see, there were two Lewis Turners existing simultaneously in Patrick County, Va in 1850. Further documentation as follows: Lewis Turner 65 b abt 1796 - no further documentation as to parentage Lewresey 52 b abt 1798 - no further documentation as to parentage Last Will and Testament of Lewis Turner (Will Bk 4, 158- Patrick Co., VA) names following children: WILLIAM G. b. abt 1822 - reference 1850 Census marr 5 Feb 1846 Mary Francis Ayres b. abt 1822 daug of Thomas Ayres in Patrick Co., VA Children - in 1850 Census of Patrick Co., VA George b abt 1847 Martha b abt 1848 Deed Bk 15, pg. 450: William G. Turner sale to T.J. Penn rights and title to estate of father, Lewis Turner, Sr. Dated 25 Aug 1856 - Patrick Co., VA . LEWIS - possibly living in household of Murphy Harris and wife, Martha Ayres. This is the third Lewis Turner listed in 1850 Patrick Co., VA census. MARY E. CASTLE b. abt 1822 marr Michael Cassell 8 Dec 1841 Patrick Co., VA* named as child in LW&T documentation shows not child of Lewis and Cynthia GREENWOOD b abt 1828 (per 1850 Census) marr Rebecca Ayres 24 Dec 1847 (Patrick County Marriages), Rebecca daug of Thomas Ayres. Child: Mary Jane b abt 1849 - per 1850 Census This appears to be the only child of Lewis and Lewresey Turner who remained in the Patrick County, VA area by 1860. 1860 Census shows: Greenwood 33 Rebecca 31 Mary 10 Susannah 9 Franklin P. 7 Nancy 5 Ruth P. 25 SUSAN b abt 1829 per (1850 Census) no further record RUTH - not shown with family in 1850 Census, but named as child in father's Last Will and Testament written April 1851 PCVA - no further record LUCRITIA b. 28 Dec 1831 marr Stephen W. Penn right and title to estate of father, Lewis Turner, Sr. dated 25 Aug 1856 - PCVA - no further record ADMIRE b abt 1838 per 1850 census PCVA - no further record JACKSON b. abt 1840 per 1850 census PCVA - no further record JAMES MARION b. abt 1842 per 1850 census PCVA - no further record SALLY A. b. abt 1844 per 1850 cenus PCVA - no further record I realize that I am one of the "new kids on the block" here, but at one time I thought perhaps my William Green Turner may have been a child of Lewis and Lewresey Turner and I gathered some information on them before I realized there was no family connection. However, every little bit helps!! I hope this will help someone. Romona ======================= Romona: Thanks for taking time to clarify the Lewis Turner info. Hope you soon feel a part of the group, not like a new kid on the block. Nyla [Folks: I've added a note about this correction to comp202b.txt.
