I received one survey response after I sent Comp #252. If you haven't responded yet, it's not too late. I'll still collect them and send a second list out. A big welcome to our new folks, especially those who responded to our survey as a result of seeing it on Chris' home page. I want to thank Chris again for what she does for this group. All the previous compilations can be dowloaded. Thanks go to Kevin who has zipped all the files for us. David keeps feeding his computer information that folks are sharing. He's making connections for us all the time. We have a very generous group of folks who give so much of themselves to make this list work. Nyla CREED DePauk ====================== Subj: Re: David's Question Date: 97-11-08 05:50:42 EST From: chrisdawson@hotmail.com (chris dawson) Nyla, I'm female spare time geneologist. My livlihood is obtained by exersizing my God given right to go to work each day. I've been doing geneology for over twenty years now and still have many unanswered questions. I am also a perpetual student (college) I have attended night school for the past ten years and hope to obtain my degree in liberal studies (Women and minority issues) by the time I retire. Great work on the compilations. Anyone researching Packwoods? Get in touch with me. Packwood, Turner, Appleby, Hudson, Norris, Bartlett and many more. Chris =============== Folks: If you have any new info on any of Chris' lines, be sure to share the info with me, too, so the rest of gets all the updates. ==================== Subj: Re: Surname/State Survey Date: 97-11-08 10:51:08 EST From: BekahAnn@aol.com I found the last survey results very interesting. I was surprised to see people from all walks of life so interested in their heritage. I am looking for TURNER and STONE (on my side). I have info that they were in Kanawha Co. WV circa1890. My TURNER was born in 1863 in VA. I am looking in both WV and VA for both surnames. On my husband's side, here are the surnames that I am looking for in the Henry and Patrick Co. areas of VA --- [some of these are "marry-ins"] ---- SHELTON, SIMMONS, OVERBY, MITCHELL, KIRKMAN, GRAY, PILSON, CREED, HAYMORE, HULL, COLLINS and many, many others. There is a listing surnames in Jeff's profile at JShel6675 covering the direct lines. For a even more complete listing of our surnames, please visit our website at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/5906 Thanks for all your wonderful work Nyla. Bless you! Rebekah Shelton Clarksville, TN ========================= Rebekah: I need to check on those CREEDs. The amount of eMails I received the past couple of weeks has really kept me busy. Smith) Nyla -- Thanks for making this so much fun! I am on another mailing list that is so complicated that I "dare" not send a message for fear of screwing up. Have a wonderful day. Bette ===================== Bette: I've tried to keep things simple. Most of us want the information, and we'll take it anyway it comes. Outline, narrative, group sheets, back of an envelope, anyway we can get it. Did I ever tell you about the gentlemen who wanted all my information on a particular SURNAME. I was willing to share information, but wasn't too excited about making copies of everything I had on that particular family. But, I thought I'd eventually get most of it to him for his book. He didn't want copies. He wanted me to fill out his family group sheets which were printed on orange-colored paper. Need I say more? Nyla ========================= This cat dies of natural causes and goes to Heaven. God meets him at the gate and says, "You've been a good cat all these years. Anything you desire, all you have to do is ask." The cat says, "Well, I lived all my life with a poor family on a farm and I had to sleep on hardwood floors." God says, "Say no more." And instantly, a fluffy pillow appears. A few days later, 6 mice are killed in a tragic accident and they go to Heaven. God meets them at the gate with the same offer He made the cat. The mice said, "All our life we've had to run. We've been chased by cats, dogs, and even women with brooms. If we could only have a pair of roller skates, we wouldn't have to run anymore." God says, "Say no more." And instantly, each mouse is fitted with a beautiful pair of tiny roller skates. About a week later, God decides to check and see how the cat is doing. The cat is sound asleep on his new pillow. God gently nudges him awake and asks, "How are you doing? Are you happy here?" The cat yawns and stretches and says, "Oh, I've never been happier in my life. And those meals on wheels you've been sending are the best." ======================== Subj: TURNER Date: 97-11-08 01:01:12 EST From: Clm59@aol.com Hi Nyla, Sharon e-mailed me and said you had a Turner family group. I would like to join. I have Turner in my family from MA. I am having a hard time finding info on my ggrandfather Burton Lester Turner b. Aug 1869 he married Cora Jane Kent. Thanks in advance for any help you could give me. Carolyn clm59@aol.com ======================= Carolyn, Welcome! Anyone able to help Carolyn? ======================== Date: Friday, November 07, 1997 5:07 PM Subject: Smithsonian I visited Gaunt's site and saw something quite interesting, and surprising in the messages sent to Nyla Creed's discussion list. I'd like to set the record straight about the old whiskey still that was donated to the Smithsonian. I believe that if you'll check with Clyde Turner, you'll learn that it was not he, but Roy Lackey of Elamsville who donated it. It had been packed away in Roy's barn for many years, and when the Feds learned that he had it, rather than destroy it, they suggested that he donate it to the Museum, which he did. I sure don't want to get into any disputes with anyone, and prefer to remain anonymous, but facts are facts. ======================= Subj: Rakes family Date: 97-11-07 19:19:49 EST From: HarrisSEM@aol.com Here is some Rakes info that Jeannie might find helpful My mother -in- law is Eva Ruth Rakes Harris.
