Karen gets a <<>> for all the sleep she lost while working on Turner information for us. As always, Chris and Kevin deserve a thank you for their work. And last, but not least, a standing ovation for David's contributions last week. Hope everyone enjoyed the mail last weekend. More eMails. Nyla CREED DePauk San Diego CA ======================= Subj: Ross Info Swap Date: 97-09-19 09:40:08 EDT From: StevePipit To: NCreed1 Realizing that the surname ROSS is the 18th most common name in America, chances are slim that anyone in your group has a clue about my John Wythe Ross (b probably near Richmond or Montgomery Co.VA 1824, lived in Iowa, CA, TX, d 1881 in NM) or his father, William Ross of VA. However, if you think there's a chance there's stuff in your database on the Rosses of VA in 17th and 18th and early 19th centuries, and it's organized so the reader doesn't have to wade through the 1950s Rosses of Timbucktoo to find it, I'd be honored to be part of your mailing list. Also, I can provide a GEDCOM file if you can accommodate it. StevePipit@AOL.com ======================== Greetings: We have approximately 214 compilations on Chris Gaunt's home page: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~cgaunt You might want to take a look and do a search to see if you find your Ross family. If you find a file that looks interesting, you can download it. Or download them all. Just be forewarned, they are large files. In the meantime, I'll add your eMail to the next compilation and see if anyone recognizes your family. Unfortunately, we aren't guilty of being organized. These compilations are eMails that folks send me. Some of them are quite lengthy. Our goal is share information. And that we have done. I take the information in any format that folks want to send it. The majority of our info is on Turner and Burnett families. However, there is some info on the Ross family. Most of our families were from Southwestern Virginia (Patrick, Henry, Bedford, Franklin, etc.). Anything you care to share on your line would be appreciated. If you'd like to send me a narrative, outline, fgs, etc., I'd be glad to share it with the list. Then Chris will archive it on her home page. Kevin will zip it to make it easier for folks to copy. And it will be available for the whole genealogy world to see. Nyla CREED DePauk San Diego ======================== Subj: TURNER's in So. In Comp 201 Revised, in the second page of letter from Permelia Corn to Permelia's brother Samuel C. TURNER, she mentions a Margaret FERGUSON. "tell Margaret Ferguson I have been to Sanfords". Does anyone know who this Margaret FERGUSON is? I am also trying to find Susan ROSS b. 1805 in Virginia. She married a William FERGUSON b. 1795 in North Carolina, buried in Union County, Anna, IL. In 2-1837 they were in Gibson Co. TN, where a son, Joseph William FERGUSON was born. He also died in Anna, IL. Can someone help me please? I don't know how to figure out if these are all just names in common or if there is a possibility there could be a connection. Thanks. Karen ivygate@intrnet.net ====================== Folks: Anyone able to help Karen with her questions? Nyla ====================== Subj: Burnett-Corn-Adams families Date: 97-09-19 08:05:57 EDT From: HarrisSEM I have a question regarding the Burnett - Corn - and Adams families. John Burnett and Elizabeth Tate had two daughters who married Corns: 1. Elizabeth Burnett b. 1793-94 , married Jesse Corn Jr. on Mar. 15, 1810 in Patrick Co., VA. They moved to Franklin Co., Tenn. 2. Permilia Burnette b. abt 1795 , married Samuel Corn on Nov, 28, 1816 in Pat. Co. , VA. They also moved to Franklin Co., Tenn. Both Jesse Corn Jr. and Samuel Corn were the sons of Jesse Corn Sr. and Nancy Hancock. To continue.... According to several past compilations these are the children of Jesse Corn Jr. and Elizabeth Burnett: 1. Permilia Corn 2. Mary "Polly" Corn 3. Jane Corn 4. Dicea Corn 5. Peter Corn 6. Susan Corn 7. Judy Corn According to the book, "The Burnett Family with Collateral Branches Also Historical and Genealogical Notes on Allied Families and Biographical Sketches of Various Eminent Burnetts" by Charles Howard Burnette on page 148 , it lists the children of John Burnett and Elizabeth Tate and includes this: "Elizabeth. m. 13 March, 1810, Jesse Corn, Patrick Co., Va., and had s., Samuel Corn, of Franklin Co., Tenn." So, it would seem that they also had a son, Samuel, but I have not seen him listed anywhere else except in this book. It also seems that several of Jesse Corn and Elizabeth Burnett's children moved back to Patrick Co., VA . where they married and lived the rest of their lives. (Even Elizabeth must have moved back, because she died in Pat. Co in 1869.) To continue further.... I have an Elizabeth Corn b. Aug. 20, 1788 in Franklin Co., Tenn. She married the Rev. Joshua Adams in Dec. 16, 1809 in Pat. Co., VA. It says on the Pat. Co. Death Records that her parents were Samuel Corn and Elizabeth ___. At last- the point of all this!! Would anybody be able to confirm if Samuel Corn, father of Elizabeth Corn who married Joshua Adams, is the same Samuel Corn who is perhaps the son of Jesse Corn Jr., and Elizabeth Burnett? Thanks a lot for any help! Sherry ====================== Folks: Can someone answer Sherry's question. I would also like to know if this is the same Samuel Corn.
