Taken from a letter dated 8 Nov. 1904, written by George Edwin Pedigo [than 86] from Randolph, Metcalfe Co. KY, in notes of John Paul Grady . In the year 1805 my grandfather, Joseph Pedigo [eldest son of Edward "Ned" Pedigo] moved from Virginia to Kentucky and settled near Pleasant Hill. The house is on the land he bought [250 acres]. Two or three years later he went back to Virginia and moved Grandsire Ned [Edward "Ned" Pedigo] to Kentucky and settled him on part of his land [Joseph's]. Grandsire Ned lived there until the death of his wife, then went to his son Joseph's and lived and died there. My mother having died, I was placed at my grandmother's and grandfather's [Joseph and Dolly Edwards Pedigo] and waited on Grandsire Ned until he died. He was buried 2 & 1/2 miles north of Pleasant Hill Church. No graveyard here then. This excerpt is taken from a draft written by John Paul Grady, while he was researching the Pedigo's in the 1960's. There was no source listed for this information. [NOTE - Letha Pedigo Palin has copy of the letter. see George Edwin #136-161, for a complete copy of the actual letter. .] "During the Revolutionary War, Joseph PEREGOY [PEDIGO, son of Edward PEDIGO and Hannah ELKIN] was recorded as serving in Peter Hairston's Company, Virginia Colonial Militia, marching to assist Gen. Greene at Guilford Courthouse." [The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was fought in March, 1781. Joseph was also listed in James Poteet's Company for additional Revolutionary Service, probably later in 1781.] "Joseph was only 20 years old in May of that year. Lord Cornwallis, after defeating Greene's forces in Guilford Co., NC (just north of the present site of Greensboro) overran most of Southern Virginia. He occupied Petersburg, VA, on 20 May, joined there by British forces dispatched from New York. Thomas Jefferson, then Governor of Virginia, barely escaped capture at Charlottesville (Monticello) in a raid by Col. Tarleton's men. Lafayette and Wayne (Mad Anthony) rallied American Forces in VA during that summer, forcing the British to retire to Yorktown. "Our Joseph "may" have been among the American troops which besieged Yorktown, while the French Fleet closed off any escape by sea for the British. The surrender by Cornwallis of his 7,000 man Army on 19 Oct 1781, brought an end to military operations in the 13 colonies. Only the pockets of "Loyalists" or "Tories" remained to be cleaned up. "We can wonder if Joseph and his father [Edward] (whose service in the Revolution was more extended) were estranged at this time from family of Robert Peregoy [Pedigo, his brother]. "Uncle Robin" was reputedly "Loyalist" in his sympathies, refusing to countenance or condone the "treason" of his fellow Virginians (including his own brother) against King George III." === NOTE === Patrick Co., was made up entirely from Henry Co., and that Franklin was partly from Henry.
