Stephen Terry Turner married Nancy D. Gilley, daughter of George Gilley and Mary Wilson, 12-3-1828. The last census that I have found on Stephen Terry (He went by Terry) and Nancy was the 1860 Henry County, VA. I am descended through this son, Monroe L. Turner, his oldest child. Other children were Harden, Louise, Elizabeth, John, Mary, George and Stephen. Hannibal Turner was Terry's nephew, son of Meadows and Eliza Turner. Stephen Terry Turner and Nancy Gilley Turner are buried in the old Turner cemetary near Irisburg, Henry Co., VA. Stephen Turner was the son of Isaiah Turner and his wife, Frances Terry. That is where the "Terry" in Stephen Terry came from. He had an uncle named Stephen Terry. Isaiah was the son of old James Turner of Bedford and Caroline Counties, VA. James was the son of Richard Turner of Caroline County, VA. Hope this helps. Contact me if you need more information. History of Trigg County, Historical and Biographical, ed. W.H. Perrin, F.A. Battey Pub. Co., Chicago, 1884. pp. 278-79. [Cerulean Springs Precinct] ROBERT R. TURNER was born in Christian (now Trigg) County, Ky., February 8, 1812, and died August 9, 1884; he was the second child in a family of eleven, born to James W. and Jane (Rogers) Turner. The father was born in South Carolina. Our subject's grandfather and two uncles served in the Revolutionary War. James W. emigrated to Christian County from South Carolina about the year 1808, and located about one and one-half miles from Cerulean Springs, on a farm, where he died in 1856, at the age of seventy-seven years. His wife was born in Virginia. She died in 1864, aged seventy-two. Our subject was married, in 1834, to Leah Goodwin. She was born on this farm in 1809, and is a daughter of the late John Goodwin of this county. Our subject has nine children, six of whom are now living. His son, Robert P., enlisted in the late war, and died in the hospital at Hopkinsville soon after enlistment. John J. served throughout the war. David R. enlisted and served about seven weeks, when he was discharged on account of physical disability. Mr. Turner held the office of Magistrate continuously for forty years. His continuous re-election evinced the high esteem in which his services were held by his constituency; his term expired June, 1883, when he positively declined a re-election. He was a life-long and devoted member of the Baptist Church. A town called "Pinkneyville" is mentioned and it rang a bell in my head!! I have a William Pinkney Turner in my database and wonder what the connection is with the Pinkneys....if Pinkney is a surname. This is not my family line but is inserted as a reference, and have wondered where the name "Pinkney" came from. William Pinkney Turner died about 1930 and was married to Hannah Vise, who died about 1974. The fact that a Turner was going to name the town Pinkneyville indicates, to me that there is a connection somewhere, yet I've never seen Pinkney used as a surname. Any thoughts on this??? Or am I out in left field?? :-) Sharon Turner Yoder sky@pcola.gulf.net > On April 11th, 1846, the First > Legislature of the State of Texas was held and Joseph Turner was appointed a > commissioner to find a townsite for Pinkneyville which would thereafter be > the county seat and hold elections. ======================== Subj: RE: Comp 154 - Burnett-Turner-Ross-Via-Etc/Etc Date: 97-07-29 19:30:51 EDT From: kevin2@falcon.cc.ukans.edu (Kevin K. The Bedford County Courthouse in Bedford, Virginia has indexed ALL of their marriage records indexed onto a computer!!!!! This is a wonderful thing to look at for sure. The Bedford County/City Museum has a copy of the print out of all this information in a binder. Is this easy to do a marriage lookup? (BIG GRIN) Rather than spending time in the court house turning pages in those 100 pound marriage record books, it now takes me about 30 seconds to check on a marriage. Do YOU need me to take a look? Glad to do it. Send me who you are looking for or even just a last name and I'll quickly get back to you. I'm trying to go to Bedford at least once a week. What I want to say her is, DO YOU HAVE A BURNETT HOME PAGE? Do you have a home page with Burnett info to share? PLEASE let me know so that I may create a link from my page (URL is below my name) to yours. So far I have SIX listed. Just added one last week. Go to my page and click on the BURNETT name and check out their pages too. Also there you will see that I have added a Burnett Photo Album of my Burnett kin. #1.) Waddie Brown Salmon, Sr. and Augusta Frances Burnett on their 75th wedding anniversary! He is the son of William Everett Salmon and she is the daughter of Austin Banks Burnett & Augusta Frances Jackson. #2.) Ellis Moorman Burnett, son of Austin Banks Burnett & Augusta Frances Jackson. #3) Elishia Callahill Burnett, son of William Burnett and Catherine Hall. Very, very soon I hope to be adding more, as in hopefully by this weekend one of Austin Banks Burnett, Waddie Salmon, Sr. and three of the Graves family in front of the old Graves Mill in Campbell County, Virginia. I'll keep you posted as I do. BE ADVISED: I corrected a birth date for JAMES HOOPER BURNETT. I had it wrong as far as the year. It is 1793 NOT 1893. My fingers type faster than my brain can keep up with at times. A "wonderful" cuzin (Alice) corrected it for me. If YOU see a mistake or have a question PLEASE let me know. Thanks Cuzins. If not, the father may have gone to war; still births; many infant deaths. Only the strong made it through the freezing NY winters). The name of JOHN BURNETT, CHARLES MORGAN and HUGH CUNNINGHAM are certainly clues that should be followed. Warren Co, NY was formed 1813 from Washington Co, NY and Washington Co was formed 1772 from Albany Co. I hope this little bit helps. Maybe someone can add to this record. ======================= The end of this compilation.
