Hi, Could the name be BURNETT or BURNETTE? I could not find one reference to the name BURNETTA? Sorry Your question would be a good one to pose to the PC Historical Society!! I always become so excited to find another Burnett. If it had not been for Val's story printed in #151, "David, a twin chr. 28 Dec 1613 in St. Nicholas Church in Aberdeen, Scotland" would not have been found. I wonder if she could give us reference to the following records. I checked the St. Nicholas Church Records from Aberdeen, Scotland and could not find: "Robert Burnett christened 1516" "Marriage of Robert Burnet to his first cousin SARA JOHNSTON" "BURNETT-JOHNSTON allies" "Robert and Sara had son JOHN BURNETT" "JOHN BURNETT was chr. St. Nick. in 1548" "John married his cousin ISABEL JOHNSTON in 1574" "ISABEL was chr. St. Nick. 1549; dau of WILLIAM JOHNSTON" (Church record says JOHN BURNETT married ISABEL BURNETT). Ch. of John Burnet & Isabel Burnet: 1. THOMAS BURNET, chr. 2 Sep 1574 2. John Burnet, chr. 9 Dec 1576 3. William Burnet, chr. 19 Jan 1577/8; died bef. 1581 4. Elspeth Burnet, chr. 17 May 1579 5. William Burnet, chr. 23 Jul 1581 (Others?) "THOMAS BURNETT married his first cousin MARGARET JOHNSTON" "Margaret Johnston chr. 1584, dau of John Johnston" (The birth records of Margaret has not been found. There were several Margarets born early enough to be Thomas' wife, but none with father John Johnston - research has to be done). "Thomas Burnett and Margaret Johnston had 9 children all chr. in St. Nick (Nicholas) in Aberdeen: Isabel, John, Christain, Robert, Elizabeth, Margaret, Thomas, Alexander & William." (10 ch. were previously found, but as of today, we can add another: 1. Isabel Burnet (#1), chr. 31 Aug 1609; d. bef. 1612 2. JOHN BURNET, chr. 25 Dec 1610; m. LUCRETIA JOHNSTON 3. Isabel Burnet (#2), chr. 10 Mar 1612 4. Cristen (fem), a twin chr. 28 Dec 1613 5. DAVID BURNET, a twin, chr. 28 Dec 1613 6. Robert Burnet, chr. 3 Sep 1615 7. Elspeth Burnet, chr. 17 Feb 1617 8. Margaret Burnet, chr. 11 May 1618 9. Thomas Burnet, chr. 15 May 1619 10. Alexander Burnet, chr. 4 Feb 1620 11. William Burnet, chr. 28 Jan 1621. (Others?) "John Burnett m. his cousin LUCRETIA JOHNSTON in 1657" (the word cousin and date of 1657 are conjectures on my part). "At age 24, John and his wife LUCRETIA boarded ship Abraham of London, Mr. John Baker, Master, bound for Virginia" (My reference found in Hotten's, THE ORIGINAL LISTS OF PERSONS OF QUALITY, 1635 - JOHN BURNETT, AGE 24 ABOARD SHIP ABRAHAM OF LONDON, MR. JOHN BARKER, MASTER, BOUND FOR VA. Lucretia's name was not on passenger list). John and Lucretia had 6 known children: 1. JOHN BURNET (II), inherited the Burnett plantation in Old Rappahannock Co, Va (Essex Co); he m. AMY GATEWOOD. 2. THOMAS BURNETT JR. was his mother's Exec. in 1709; he m. 1/ MRS. ANNE BELL; 2/ SARA _____. 3. SARA BURNETT m. THOMAS BELL 4. PHEBE BURNETT d. bef. 1709, unmarried. 5. a dau m. pre-dec'd mother; married MR. ____ CURRAN 6. CHARLES BURNETT pre-dec'd mother; m. ANNE________. JOHN BURNETT (II) (CA 1660-1718), m. AMY GATEWOOD and had 6 known ch: JOHN (III), Joseph, Elizabeth, Anne, Amy & Jeremiah. (Richard was Joseph's son). John's will names only 5 ch; however, the estate of son Joseph in 1771 proves the 6th, Jeremiah. After JOHN BURNETT (II) died in 1718, his widow Amy Gatewood Burnett m. 2/ David Scott and they moved to Spotsylvania Co, Va where David died in 1749 and Amy was Admx. She may have had a 2nd family with David and probably died there. I found no record in Essex showing she had returned. JOHN BURNETT (III) inherited 1/2 of the Burnett Plantation in Essex Co along with his brother Joseph. However, John became deeply indebted and mortgaged his share & lost it. He married CATHERINE NEWBILL, dau of NATHANIEL NEWBILL & SARA ST. JOHN. John and Catherine had 9 known ch: John (IV), James, Nathaniel, Catherine, Sarah, Benjamin, Rachel, Mary/Polly & Susanna. After losing his land, John and Catherine moved first to Mecklenburg Co, Va, then Lunenburg and back to Mecklenburg where he d. in 1775. JOHN BURNETT (IV) (1730-1809) married twice. His first wife is unknown, (may be dau of Leonard Cardin. John named his first son Leonard). John m. 2/ 1780 in Mecklenburg Co, Va to SARA JOHNSON (not cousins that I know of). She was dau of COL. PHILIP JOHNSON. John (IV), after having 4 ch. in Mecklenburg, removed to Spartanburg Dist., SC where he and his brother James were issued a grant of land... Children of John & 1st wife: Leonard, Sarah & Martha; ch. of John Burnett & Sara Johnson: Susannah, b. 1782 Mecklenburg; John (V), b. ca 1784 in SC; Carter, Woodsonn, Cynthia, Mahala, Lowrey & Thursa. SARA JOHNSON BURNETT died 1851 at the house of her dau, Mahala Tillotson. WOODSON BURNETT (1792-1886). He and his bro. Carter served in War of 1812 in Capt. Edward Clements SC Militia. Woodson m. early 1816 to his 1st cousin, SUSANNA BURNETT, b. 1791 SC; d. bef. 21 May 1861 when Woodson m. 2/ Julia Strickland. He had 23 ch; 15 by Susan and 8 by Julia. 1822 Jan 29 - Spartanburg Dist, SC - Deed Bk S:192-3 LOWRY BURNETT to WOODSON BURNETT.. $125 for 101 acres on both sides of Fawn Branch of Larson's Fork being part of Grant to JOHN BURNETT & JAMES BURNETT (their father & uncle).. 1826 Aug 16 - ibid - DB T:318-9 WOODSON BURNETT to William Bennett.. $200 for 200 acres on both sides of N. fork of Shoaly Creek of Larson's Fork joining LEONARD CARDIN, MILTON DAVIS (& others) where WOODSON LIVES being part of 2 grants (both issued to Cardin). ======================================= The end of this compilation.
