Following is a snapshot of where I am with my SINK family history. I wish to thank the many of you who have contributed to this list. As most of you know, I have come into possession of the original research papers of Graydon Sink and Rachael Stanley who collected family data in the 1950's thru 1970's. Summer is here and while I have finished input of Graydon's data, I have taken a break from Rachael's till this fall. So, here is where I am. The information provided here is by no means authoritative and definitely not complete. There is much that is correct, even more that is speculative, and some that is outright wrong. This should NOT be considered as the answer to the SINK family. It is nothing more than a framework for others to begin and conduct their own research. Descendants of Henry ZINCK First Generation 1. Henry ZINCK was born 1698 in Germany. He died 1763. Henry immigrated to America in 1725. He was a carpenter by trade. Will abstract Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Vol XVI, File 347 Eastern Public Library in 1763. Henry lived in Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1757, 1758, 1759, and 1760 according to the tax lists of Coventry Township in Chester County. Marriage records in the same county show Henry married Elizabeth Stager, widow of John Stager who died in 1747. Henry married (1) Elizabeth ___ after Jun 1747 in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. He had the following children: + 2 M i. Michael ZINK was born 1722 and died 1775. Second Generation 2. Michael ZINK was born 1722 in Germany. He died 1775 in Royal Colony. Michael immigrated to America with his Pennsylvaniarents in 1725. He settled first in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania but had moved to Coventry Township in Chester County, Pennsylvania by 1753. Michael is the only child named in his father's will. Pennsylvania archives records state that Michael was drafted into the King's army 9 June 1746 and that he started service 11 July 1746. Michael was a farmer and later by 1774 an Innkeeper of the Swan Tavern on the road between Pottstown and Reading in the area covered by Kenilworth, Coventry Township, Chester County. His tavern license is on file with the Chester County Historical Society. After his death, Michael's wife Mary and son Jacob petitioned for the license and ran the tavern for several more years till 1787. The license was issued to Jacob and Paul in 1776. In 1779, it was issued to Jacob, John and Stephen. The license next passed to Abraham and Stephen in 1787. An estate settlement was filed in Chester County, Pennsylvania May 30, 1775 listing Michael's children. The tavern was located in what is now Kenilworth, Chester County, Pennsylvania. The following records appear in the Chester County Administrations: No. 153 - 1774 Michael Sink of Coventry, lately rented a plantation in Coventry Township, which has been licensed house of entertainment upwards of twenty years. May 30, 1775 Letters were granted for the Administration of Michael Zink, deceased, Coventry Township, to Mary and Jacob Zink. No. 145 - 1775 Mary Sink, widow of Michael Sink, petition for a license, house has been kept upwards of thirty years. 1776 - Mary Sink of Coventry applies for a license. No. 172 - 1778 Jacob Sink, Sign of the Swan, on the Road from Sign of the Bull to Pottsgrove and Reading Town. No. 148 - 1782 Jacob Sink applies for license. No. 120 - 1783 Jacob Sink, Sign of the Swan, on the great road from Valley Forge to Pottsgrove. No. 149 - 1786 Jacob Sink, Coventry, at the Sign of the Swan. No. 13 - 1787 Jack Brumback, Coventry, the "Swan", lately kept by Jacob Zink. It is believed the above property was rented from the Brownback family since there is a record of their purchase of the property from Conrad and Mary Shunk June 27, 1771 and it remained in their family until 1809. Michael married Mary ___ on 1754. They had the following children: 3 M i. Jacob SINK was born 1756 in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. He died in Kentucky. Jacob fought in the Revolutionary War. He is possibly the same Jacob found living in Bourbon County, Kentucky in 1790 as he disappears from the Chester County, Pennsylvania tax rolls at the same time a Jacob appears in Bourbon, Kentucky. + 4 M ii. Paul SINK was born 1757. 5 M iii. John SINK was born 1758 in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. John fought in the Revolutionary War. + 6 M iv. Stephen SINK was born Sep 1759 and died 11 Sep 1835. 7 F v. Mary SINK. + 8 M vi. Abraham SINK was born 12 Feb 1762 and died 1 Feb 1847. Third Generation 4. Paul SINK was born 1757 in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. He died in NC. Paul first appears in the Chester County, Pennsylvania tax records in 1776 and again in 1778. He is missing from the 1779 and later records. Paul apparently moved to North Carolina in the late 1770's settling in Salisbury County area where a Paul Sink first appears. Paul enlisted with the North Carolina militia and served for the duration of the Revolutionary War. He had the following children: 9 M i. Michael SINK was born in NC. 10 M ii. John SINK was born in NC. 11 M iii. Phillip SINK was born in NC. 6. Stephen SINK was born Sep 1759 in Pennsylvania, Royal Colony. He died 11 Sep 1835 in Franklin Co., Virginia and was buried in Stephen Sink Cemetery, Franklin Co., Virginia. Stephen married Susan PLYBON. Susan was born 1752. She died 30 Dec 1843 in Franklin Co., Virginia. Stephen fought during the Revolutionary War with the 4th. Company, 2nd. Batt., Chester County Militia, State of Pennsylvania. Stephen enrolled 12 August 1780 as a private in 3rd. class of the 4th Company according to the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, Division of Public Records. After the war, Stephen eventually moved to Franklin County, Virginia in 1793 and settled on a branch of Blackwater Creek where he bought 60 acres of land from Meshack Perdue. He continued buying land over the years until he accumulated over 500 acres. In the early 1800's, he built a large home which he called his mansion house. Following is the will of Stephen Sink: I Stephen Sink of Franklin County in the State of Virginia do make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following to wit; Item 1st after all my lawful debts and funeral expenses shall be paid. I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Susan Sink the tract of land with the mansion house that I now live on, and one third of my other property, during her natural life. Item 2nd, I give and bequeath to my son Davien Sink fifty dollars in consideration of the expenses that he was at in building the house I now live in and Jessee Toney's part that intermared with my daughter Frony, excepting ten dollars that I leave said Toney. I leave my son Daniel Sink the thirty-six dollars that he is owing me as his part of my estate. The residue of my estate including the tract of land that my son Henry Sink now lives on to be sold at my death and be equally divided amongst my children here after named, viz., Henry Sink, Jacob Weaver that intermarried with my daughter Elizabeth, Jonothan Beckner that intermarried with my daughter Polly, and Asa Ward that intermarried with my daughter Susan and David Sink is alls to have the Legasey's already named, and at the death of my dearly beloved wife her part left her is to be sold and divided as above stated, vis., between my son Henry Sink, my son David Sink, Jacob Weaver, Jonothan Beckner and Asa Ward and their Heirs. Lastly, I nominate and appoint Asa Ward and Eson Sink executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills by me made. In witness, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 1 Sept. 1835. David SINK was born 1794. 8. Abraham SINK was born 12 Feb 1762 in Northampton Co., Pennsylvania. He died 1 Feb 1847 in Franklin Co., Virginia. Abraham is reported to have served three years during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted 1778 in a Company of Light Horse from Chester County, Pennsylvania, Captain Bartholomew von Heer's troop of cavalry. He served as a letter carrier to General Wayne and a guard to General George Washington. He received a face wound during the war which left him scarred and somewhat deaf. He received a pension of $100 annually beginning in 1832. Pension number 56103. Abraham eventually moved to Franklin County, Virginia in 1792 along with his brother and settled on a branch of Mill Creek. He was stricken from the Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania tax records in 1793. Abraham's service records appear in the "Pennsylvania Archives", 5th Series, Volume III, pages 919, 924, 927, and 929. The original documents which are printed in the above are located at the Pensylvania Historical and Museum Commission in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Abraham married Elizabeth ___ in Pennsylvania. She died 1871. In the 1850 census of Franklin County, Virginia Henry -age 67- was listed as a farmer and noted born in Pennsylvania. He moved to Franklin County between 1790 and 1793. Henry settled in Franklin County, Virginia between 1790 and 1792. The family moved to Floyd County, Virginia in 1840. Children Caleb, Cornelius, Polly and Elias do not appear together in other researchers lists but in different combinations.
