End Game

By Jerry Kelleher

Burning feathers melted by red sun rising
A bloodcurdling scream of pain & rage
Scatters my sanity like ball bearing on glass.
A tar-covered angel raises its head above
choking haze, through methane tears
It cried, "I died for you, you, ungrateful fuck".

A razor bed to sooth my open sores pecked
endlessly, in a black plague of beak and feather.
Mortal life's coil spirals from Conamara Chaos
as scattered liverless angels kneel awaiting thanks.
Bitter meat ripped by talons lead trails of crimson
slime to a feast, no thanks here for life eternal.

Tensile wrapped eyes in empty sockets.
a cloud of darkness lifts in upturned praise
. My stainless steel palms for modern living
sweep away offerings to a suburban God.
I too can forgive all, move over elders
the kids have come to play.

Jerry Kelleher grew up in a small town in the south of Ireland. He later studied information technology in Dublin and qualified as a computer programmer and graphic designer. He has travelled widely in the United States, Europe, North Africa and the Caribbean.
