The Familiarity of Unicorns

By L.B. Sedlacek

Sometimes computer generated
images come on screen with

comforting words, or maybe
instructions. While mornings

come and go with regularity,
it is nothing like going up against

dragons with wooden swords
or feasting at a Knight's table.

In the forest, the elves watched
and whispered and the witches

cast spells making it hard to
escape without a hero, or

maybe a unicorn galloping
to the rescue.

L.B. Sedlacek's poems have appeared in "Would That It Were," "Fables," "Aoife's Kiss," "Song of the Siren," "Hadrosaur Tales," "Tales of the Talisman," "Between Kisses," "Ascent," "The Fossil Record," "Re)Verb," "Inkburns," "Grit," "Blue Collar Review," "HazMat Review," "Texas Poetry Journal," and "Poet's Canvas." L.B.'s chapbooks include "Alexandra's Wreck" (Kitty Litter Press). L.B.'s poetry awards include 3rd place in the 2004 "Gin Bender Review" poetry contest. L.B. has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize. For more information, see L.B.'s personal web site.
