IS THERE ANY HOPE??

There are many things that are being done that give us hope for the future.  Some things that can be done are as follows:

--Scientists are currently designing alternate chemicals to replace CFCs in products that we use.  Examples of this are HCFCs (break down quicker), and HFCs (do not contain chlorine, therefore they are ozone "friendly").

--Control production, use, and emission of ozone-destroying chemicals.

        --Increase recycling of these chemicals.

--Stricter controls on disposal of these chemicals.

There are some indications that the we are making progress in combatting the problem.  According to Dr. Frank R. de Gruijl, a biophysicist on the staff of the Dermatology Department, University Hospital, University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, the ozone layer should rebound to 1970 levels in approximately 50 years, assuming that the current regulation is continued.
