Welcome! The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Caucus (LGBTC) is a forum for public health workers interested in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues. The LGBT Caucus has been in official relations with the American Public Health Association (APHA) since 1975. Since that time, the LGBT Caucus has provided a forum that supports the educational interchange among other lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender public health members. We also encourage interchange between others who are not LGBT but are interested in our issues. The caucus has been very important in giving opportunities for public health practitioners to learn about relevant LGBT health issues and to ensure that these issues continue to be addressed in all dimensions of health. The Caucus is also committed to combating discriminatory practices in health organizations and systems. The LGBT was caucus was founded by Dr. Walter J. Lear, Jr. MD. He was awarded the 2006 Helen Rodriguez-Trias Award for Social Justice for his years of service as a health activist. The award was presented at the 134th annual meeting of the American Public Health Association in Boston, MA, on November 5th, 2006. The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) was awarded the 2006 Presidential Citation by APHA for its work to ensure health care for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. Feel free to view our membership section to learn how to become part of the Caucus. We hope to see you next November for the 2007 APHA conference and at future LGBT Caucus events and activities.
