Comparing transport strategies

The applet is slow to load up. Afterwards you should see three buttons below each of which opens up two windows for simulating evacuations. This applet demonstrates how an experiment can be easily constructed to compare different evacuation strategies.

The first button brings up a simulation where transports move randomly. In the simulation for the second button, transports move randomly but try to avoid locations they have already visited. For the third, transports behave the same but additionally look at adjacent locations and prefer those with evacuees and then safety locations if they are carrying evacuees.

</COMMENT>

In sample runs involving 110 locations (40 safety), 90 transports, and 200 evacuees, we have almost always seen the "smartest" transports outperform the "smarter" transports, and the "smarter" transports outperform the completely random transports in terms of time to complete the evacuation.
