Native of Germany. As a young woman she was married to Jonathon Overholtzer. They had one son. emigrated to America because of religous perseccution. Came to America on the Freindship of British. They landed in Philadelphia on October 16, 1727. Her husband and son died on board ship. Family tradition has that at one point on the trip Elizabeth fell overboard and narrowly escaped a watery grave. On her arrival in America, she was a destitute widow. She was bound out to the rich Virginia planter and frontiersman George Welton, in the exchange of the fee to America. Was put in the fields to cultivate crops and tobacco but by diligence and a job well done she was released in one year.

Immigration: October 16, 1727, arrived on the ship "Friendship of BRISTH" at Philadelphia.

Newspaper from Union City, Indiana dated April 9, 1891obituary:

Polly Marquis's grandmother on her father's side was Elizabeth Bussard. Her first marriage was to Mr. Overholtzer. They lived in Germany at this time. After their marriage they united with church; they were then driven from their native land and home by the cruel religious persecutions … She married John Stingley … Wm. Stingley, one of their sons, Polly Marquis's father, was born in 1764. After his father's death, when seven years of age, he was bound out to Col. Welton … Returning to Virginia, he married Charity Roby, in 1791. Charity's mother's maiden name was Shaw. The Robys and Shaws were long lifed people, living 80, 90, 100 years. Wm. and Charity Stingley were the parents of six children. Wm. Stingley died at the advanced age of 91 years. Polly Marquis, nee Stingley, their second child, was born Oct. 19th, 1794, in the valley between the Alleghany and New Creek mountains, Hardy County, Virginia, and was married to Wm. K. Marquis Sept. 8th, 1816, by Eld. Samuel Arnold. They moved from Virginia to Ross county, Ohio, in 1818, settling on Paint Creek … death of Wm. K. Marquis, which occurred Nov. 9th, 1857 … Grandmother died March 29th, at the extreme age of 96 years, 5 months and 10 days …
