1824 Cassandra Pickett, daughter of John Jeptha Pickett and Nancy Boulware, was born on May 21, in Fairfield District, South Carolina. [1]

Cassandra Pickett was known by her family as Kissanah, named after her maternal grandmother.

1840 Lazarus Picket (age 30-40) lived in Stewart County, Georgia with female (age 15-20) and male (age 0-5). [2]

1841 Lazarus N. Pickett died on December 15 and was buried at Fellowship Cemetery, Midway, Bullock County (Bullock County was created 5 December 1866 from Barbour and other Counties), Alabama. [3]

1843 Securities were made for the estate of Lazarus H Pickett in Sumter, Georgia by Jeptha B. Pickett (executor), Joseph N Pickett, Micajah B. Pickett, and Thomas C. Pickett. [5]

1845 Cassandra Pickett and Jonathan Windsor were married on November 6, in Stewart County, Georgia. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]

1850 Jonathan Winser (age 30) and Casandra Winser (age 26) lived in Lannahassee, Stewart County, Georgia with Thos H Pickett (age 11), Robert F Pickett (age 9), John M Winser (age 8), and Ruben P Winser (age 4). [11] [12]

1853 Elijah Winzer was appointed guardian for John M Winzer and James Winzer, orphans of John Winzer deceased, in Stewart County, Georgia. [13] [14]

c 1854 Cassandra (Pickett-Windsor) and Jonathan Pryor Durham (born 1809 in Talbotton, Talbot County, Georgia, died December 9, 1869 in Bottsford, Sumter-Webster County line, Georgia) were married. Jonathan Durham and Cassandra Pickett had 4 children: Joe Durham (born 1856, in Preston, Webster County, Georgia. died 1915 in GA), Lulu May Durham (born 1859 in Preston, Webster County, Georgia), Annie Ruth Durham (born April 29, 1867 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia, died on May 15, 1949 in Dawson, Terrell County, Georgia) and Ada Durham (born May 19, 1864 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia).

1860 Casandria Durham (age 36, born in South Carolina) lived in District 17, Sumter County, Georgia, at post office Bottsford, with John P Durham (age 50), Frances Durham (age 19), Jacob J Durham (age 3), and Lulah Durham (age 1). [15]

1865 John P Durham, physician, was assessed for taxes in District 2, Americus, Georgia. [16] [17]

1869 Dr. John Pryor Durham Sr. died on December 9 and was buried at Old Rural Hill Methodist Church Cemetery, Sumter County, Georgia. Dr. John Pryor Durham Sr. was born in 1809. [18] [19]

1870 Kisannah Pickett went to medical school and received a medical diploma from the Eclectic, or Reform Medical College, Macon, Georgia. Cassandra Pickett was the first woman to earn a medical degree in Georgia, perhaps in the entire South. [20] [21]

Cassandra Pickett was born in 1824 to John Jeptha Pickett Sr. and Nancy Boulware in Fairfield County, South Carolina. She grew up in Stewart County, Georgia and married Jonathan Windsor in 1845; after Windsor's death six years later, she married John Pryor Durham, a physician, in 1854.

Cassandra Durham would often accompany her second husband when he tended to patients, and together they had four children. After her husband died in 1869, she sent her children to live with relatives and moved to Macon, Georgia to attend its Reform Medical College.

After graduating from the Reform Medical College, Durham became the first woman in the state of Georgia to have earned a degree in medicine. She moved to Americus, Georgia and took up eclectic medicine, gathering and preparing medicinal herbs herself.

In 1871, a local newspaper in Americus referred to her as a "Doctress in Medicine" and "a professional acquisition to the city". She practiced in Americus for over 15 years, and although some male doctors objected to her practice, she built a successful patient base in and around Americus.

A local journalist wrote at the time that Durham "has as good a knowledge of medicine as most of the gentlemen who practice. She commands the respect of every gentleman and lady of this section and is doing good business."

Durham died suddenly in 1885 when she developed acute apoplexy while treating a patient.

1870 Catharine Durham (age 48, born in South Carolina) lived in Webster County, Georgia, at post office Preston, with J J Durham (age 13), L M Durham (age 11), Ada Durham (age 6), and Anna Durham (age 3). [22]

1880 Casandra Durham (age 55, born in South Carolina), self (head), Doctress, lived in Americus City, Sumter County, Georgia (father born in North Carolina and mother born in South Carolina) with Casandra Durham (age 55). [23]

1880-83 Cassandra Durham was listed as a doctor in the Georgia property tax digest for Americus, Sumter County. [24]

1885 Ada Durham and Wm J Hall were married on September 24 in Sumter County, Georgia. [25]

1885 Dr Cassandra (Kisannah) Pickett Durham died on October 18 and was buried at Rehoboth Cemetery, Randolph County, Georgia. Dr Cassandra Pickett Durham was born on May 21, 1824. [26] [27]

1894 Ada Durham Hall died on December 1 and was buried at Geneva City Cemetery, Geneva County, Alabama. Ada Durham Hall was born on May 19, 1864. [28] [29]

1900 Lula M Crapps (born in Georgia in Feb 1859, married for 10 years), wife, lived in St Paul, Geneva County, Alabama, in a household with Edward C Crapps (age 34), Carroll Crapps (age 8), Leon D Crapps (age 7), Luther P Crapps (age 6), Rodger Hall (age 9), and Erin Hall (age 12). Lula M Crapps's parents were both born in South Carolina. Lula M Crapps had had 4 children, 3 still living. Lula M Crapps was a farmer. [30]

1900 John M Wensor (born in Alabama in Mar 1843, married for 30 years) lived in Justice Precinct 3 Twp, Grimes County, Texas, in a household with Mary J Wensor (age 48), Reuben L Wensor (age 16), Arabelle Wensor (age 24), William J Wensor (age 14), Clara T Wensor (age 11), and Clarence S Wensor (age 8). John M Wensor's father was born in Georgia and his mother was born in Alabama. John M Wensor was a farmer. [31]

1910 Mary Jane Windsor (age 59, born in Texas, widowed) lived in Justice Precinct 3, Grimes County, Texas, in a household with Arah Windsor (age 35), Lee Windsor (age 36), and Clarence Windsor (age 18). Mary Jane Windsor's father was born in Mississippi and his mother was born in Texas. Mary Jane Windsor could not read or write. Mary Jane Windsor was a farmer. [32]

1915 Joab Jeptha Durham was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Terrell County, Georgia. Joab Jeptha Durham was born in 1859. [33] [34]

1921 William Nimrod Methvin, married, spouse of Annie Methvin, died on November 4, at age 54, in Cuthbert, Randolph County, Georgia. He was born on April 3, 1867, in Quitman, GA., son of Thomas J. Methvin and Eliza Ann Gordon. [35]

1921 William Nimrod Methvin died on November 26 and was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Terrell County, Georgia. William Nimrod Methvin was born on April 8, 1867. [36] [37]

1923 William James Hall died on March 18 and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery County, Alabama. William James Hall was born on June 11, 1855. [38] [39]

1926 Mrs Mary Jane Winzer died on January 9 in Near Harmony, Grimes County, Texas. She was born on November 14, 1850, in Texas, daughter of William Sloan. [40]

1926 Mary Jane Sloan Winzer died on January 9 and was buried at Harmony Cemetery, Grimes County, Texas. Mary Jane Sloan Winzer was born on November 14, 1850. [41] [42] [43]

John Marshall Winzer and Mary Jane Sloan were named as the parents of several children:

1932 Mrs Lou Terrell, spouse of R G Terrell, died on January 18 in Navasota, Grimes County, Texas. She was born on June 29, 1870, in Texas, daughter of John Marshall Windsor and Mary Jane Sloan. [44]

1935 Claude Thomas Winzer died on February 14 in Iowa Park, Wichita County, Texas. He was born on May 14, 1890, in Texas, son of John Winzer and Mary Ann Sloan. [45]

1942 William Jonathan Winzer Senior died on March 26 in Precinct 7, Chambers County, Texas. He was born on February 20, 1886, in Navasota, texas, son of Marshall Winzer and Mary Jane Sloan. He had lived at Winnie, Chambers, Texas, USA. [46]

1949 Marshall Oliver Winzer died on September 5 in Liberty, Liberty County, Texas. He was born on September 26, 1879, in Navasota, Texas, son of John Marshall Winzer and Mary Sloan. He had lived at Liberty, Liberty, Texas, USA. [47]

1918 Mary J Winzer was the mother of Clarence Winzer when he shipped to Europe (for WWI). They lived in Navasota, Texas. [49]

1954 Clarence Spurgeon Winzer died on February 3 in Cedar Bayou, Harris County, Texas. He was born on April 26, 1892, in Navasota, Texas, son of Robert [sic] Marshall Winzer and Mary Jane Sloan. He had lived at Cedar Bayou, Harris, Texas, USA. [50]

Research Notes:

Other researchers report that Cassandra Pickett married Lazarus Pickett. We seek documentation for this marriage, which would have occurred when Cassandra was about age 14. Other researchers report that Lazarus was a son of Thomas C. Pickett (1795-1870, died in Barbour, Alabama) and Mary Polly Oxford and that he was a grandson of Thomas Pickett (died on 30 NOV 1844 in West Feliciana, Louisiana).
