1824 Jeptha Cochran was born in May, 1824 in North Carolina. [1]

1844 Jeptha Cochran and Elisabeth Bradley got a marriage license on November 10, in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Levi Arledge was bondsman. [2] [3] [4] [5]

1846 Caroline McMurrey [future second wife on Jeptha Cockerham] and J. J. Melton were married on December 12 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. [6]

1850 Caroline Milton (age 22, born in North Carolina) lived in Polk, Rutherford County, North Carolina, in a household with J J Milton (age 28), Emily Milton (age 3), and Amalida Milton (age 1). [7]

1856 Jeptha Cockerham purchased land from J.B. Allen. The 50 acre tract was on the waters of Brid creek in Polk County, North Carolina. The land had been previously owned successively by Robert Walker?, John Shipman, Wm Cockerham, John Morris, and J.B. Allen. Deed dated February 7. [8]

1856 Jeptha Cockerham purchased land from Robert I Allen, executor of James B. Allen. The 50 acre tract was on Green River in Polk County, North Carolina. Deed dated June 25. [9]

1856 Jeptha Cockerham was named as a potential juror of the court of Polk County. [10] [11]

1857 Jeptha Cockerham and Katharine Melton were licensed to marry on May 3, 1857 in Polk County, North Carolina. [12] [13] [14] [15] Jephtha Cockerham and John Thompson posted bond on May 3 or 5. Katharin's last name is unclear. [16]

1857 Jeptha Cockerham sold land to David Cockerham. The 50 acre tract was on Green River in Polk County. [17]

1860 Jeptha Cochran (age 37, born in North Carolina) lived in Cooper Gap, Polk County, North Carolina, in a household with Katy C Cochran (age 34), Clingman Cochran (age 11), Wm J Cochran (age 9), Louisa Cochran (age 5), Amanda Melton (age 12), Jane Melton (age 10), and Infant Cochran (age 7 Months). Jeptha Cochran's occupation was farmer. [18] [19] William Cochran Senior and Rachel Cochran were listed adjacent (prior page of the census).

1863 Jeptha Cochran purchased land from Robert Walker. The tract was on Mill Gap Road in Polk County. [20]

c 1861 Jeptha Cochran enlisted in Company A, 25th Regiment of the Confederate Army, perhaps on February 17. [21]

1902 Caroline Cochran applied for a pension for the service of Jeptha in the Confederate Army. [22]

1866 Jeptha Cockerham purchased land from Robert F? Allen, administrator of the estate of James K Allen. The land was in Polk County on Green River. [23]

1866 The Polk County court ordered that Jeptha Cochram be exempt from the payment of the poll tax. [24]

1868 Jeptha Cochram and Wm Cockram Jr were selected for Polk County jury duty in the March term. [25]

1870 Jeptha Cochram (age 46, born in North Carolina) lived in Township 3, Polk County, North Carolina, in a household with Caroline Cochram (age 42), Clingman Cochram (age 23), James Cochram (age 19), Martha L Cochram (age 17), Doctur H Cochram (age 10), Louisa Cochram (age 6), and Columbus Cochram (age 3). 1880 J. Coekerhans (age 56, born in North Carolina, married) lived in Coopers Gap, Polk County, North Carolina, in a household with Katharine Coekerhans (age 52), Doctor H. Coekerhans (age 18), Louisa Coekerhans (age 16), Columbus Coekerhans (age 12), and Harriet Coekerhans (age 9). J. Coekerhans's parents were both born in North Carolina. J. Coekerhans's occupation was farmer. [29]

1880 Samuel Price (age 35, born in North Carolina, married) lived in White Oak, Polk County, North Carolina, in a household with Marthy Price (age 30), Ellen Price (age 8), Dora Price (age 6), Lou Price (age 4), and Price (age 6/12). Samuel Price's parents were both born in North Carolina. Samuel Price was a laborer. [30]

1900 Daughter Hattie Gulick (born in North Carolina in Mar 1872, married for 3 years), wife, lived in Palestine Ward 2, Anderson County, Texas. Hattie Gulick's parents were both born in North Carolina. Hattie Gulick had had no children. [31]

1900 Jeptha Cockrum (born in North Carolina in May 1824, single) lived in Cooper Gap Twp, Polk County, North Carolina. Jeptha Cockrum's parents were both born in North Carolina. [32] D[octor] Cockrum (born 1858) and Lusey were listed adjacent.

1902 Caroline Cochran applied for a pension for the service of Jeptha in the Confederate Army. [33]

1910 Doctor K Cochran (age 54, born in North Carolina, married) lived in Hendersonville Twp, Henderson County, North Carolina, in a household with Lucy A Cochran (age 38), Ewart L Cochran (age 11), and Hariett M Cochran (age 8). Doctor K Cochran's parents were both born in North Carolina. Doctor K Cochran could read and write. Doctor K Cochran's occupation was care taker, Hotel, wage earner. [34]

1917-18 John Vance Price registered for the draft in Polk County, North Carolina. He, son of S. A. Price, was born on November 21, 1877. He had characteristics: Brown hair, Blue eyes, Medium build, and Medium height. [35]

1920 Daughter Elizes Mccraw (age 62, born in North Carolina, married), wife, lived in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina, in a household with William S Mccraw (age 68), Dovie Mccraw (age 22), and Aderbell Mccraw (age 9). Elizes Mccraw's parents were both born in North Carolina. Elizes Mccraw could not read or write. [36]

1921 Daughter Eliza Mccraw, married, spouse of W. S. Mccraw, died on May 31, at age 63y 5m 24d, in Henderson County, North Carolina. Eliza Mccraw was buried on June 1, 1921. She was born on December 7, 1858, in Polk, North Carolina, daughter of Jeptha Cochran and Mcmurray. Eliza had lived at Heroods Gap Rd. [37]

1923 Dock K Cochran died on May 16, 1923 and was buried at Oakdale Cemetery, Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. Dock K Cochran was born on September 9, 1859. [38] [39]

1923 Doctor King Cockran, son of Jepson Cochrane and Kate Mcmurray, spouse of Dk Cochram, died on May 16, 1923, at age 63, in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. Doctor King Cockran was born on September 9, 1859, in North Carolina, United States. [40]

1928 Samuel A. Price died on August 6 and was buried at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, Polk County, North Carolina. Samuel A. Price was born on February 24, 1850. [41] [42]

1938 William Jonas Cochran, spouse of Martha Stepp, died on January 2, at age 93, in Columbus Twp, Polk County, North Carolina. He was born in 1845 in North Carolina, United States, son of Jep Cochran. [43] [44] [45]

1943 Martha L Price, spouse of S. A. Price, died on February 22, at age 91, in Campobello, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. She was born in 1852, daughter of Jep Cochran and Martha [sic] Cochran (both born in Polk County, North Carolina). [46]

1943 Martha Louise Cochran Price died on February 22 and was buried at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, Polk County, North Carolina. Martha Louise Cochran Price was born on February 28, 1852. [47] The sisters listed in her obituary do not match the sisters listed in census records but do match her daughters. Perhaps the reference to "sisters" should have been "daughters".


1943 Martha Louise Price, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jep Cochran of Polk County, N.C., died with 4 surviving sisters (daughters?): Mrs. Ellen Thompson, Mrs. Dora Bradley, Mrs Susan Bradley, and Mrs. Katherine Pettit.

1949 Coleman Edward Bradley Jr. died on August 9 and was buried at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Polk County, North Carolina. Coleman Edward Bradley Jr. was born on March 3, 1863. [49] [50]

1954 Hattie Florence Gulick died on January 2, at age 83, in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. She was born on March 27, 1870, in Polk County, North Carolina, United States, daughter of Jeptha Cochrane and Catherine Mcmurray. She had lived at Hendersonville, Henderson, North Carolina. 1955 Ellen Price died on May 22 and was buried at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Polk County, North Carolina. Ellen Price was born on February 27, 1872. [54] [55]

1955 Dora Price Bradley died on March 21, at age 79, in Saluda Twp, Polk County, North Carolina. She was born on July 30, 1875, in Polk, North Carolina, United States, daughter of Sam Price and Martha Cochran. She had lived at Saluda, Polk, North Carolina. [56]

1955 Dora Price Bradley died on March 21 and was buried at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Polk County, North Carolina. Dora Price Bradley was born on July 30, 1875. [57] [58]

1956 Robert Pettit died on March 17 and was buried at Jacksons Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Robert Pettit was born on November 22, 1874. [59] [60]

1959 John Vance Price died on April 18, at age 78, in Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. He was born on November 21, 1880, in Polk, North Carolina, United States, son of Sam Price and Martha Cochran. He had lived at Saluda, Polk, North Carolina. [61]

1959 William David Thompson died on April 5 and was buried at Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Polk County, North Carolina. William David Thompson was born on April 11, 1872. [62] [63]

1979 Catherine Price Pettit died on October 1 and was buried at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Rutherford County, North Carolina. Catherine Price Pettit was born on January 30, 1882. [64] [65]

1960 Jimmie Blackwell died on May 23 and was buried at Jacksons Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Jimmie Blackwell was born on May 9, 1909. [66] [67]

1995 Clara Mae Pettit Blackwell died on January 31 and was buried at Jacksons Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Clara Mae Pettit Blackwell was born on March 20, 1913. [68] [69]

2009 Nancy Lee Pettit Blackwell died on November 4 and was buried at Jacksons Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Nancy Lee Pettit Blackwell was born on November 26, 1912. [70] [71]

2008 Lillian Virginia Blackwell Dameron died on August 15 and was buried at Jacksons Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Lillian Virginia Blackwell Dameron was born on April 10, 1930. [72] [73]

Research Notes:

Jeptha married Katherine Melton in 1857, but death records of his children suggest that she was Katherine McMurry. The 1860 census lists Melton children. Catherine McMurray married J.J. Melton first and Jeptha Cochran second. Death records of some of their children indicate that Katherine was sometimes named as Mary. The obituary for daughter Martha names 4 other sisters: Ellen Thompson, Dora Bradley, Susan Bradley, and Katherine Pettit. Some researchers report that Jeptha also married Mary Selena McMurray with children born about 1856-58.

Eliza Mcgraw, born 1858, was perhaps a daughter of Jeptha Cochran but records suggest her mother was Mary McMurody/McMurray and that her name was once "Early":

1872 William McGraw, son of Jesse & Mary McGraw, and Eliza McMurray, age 16, daughter of Mary, got a marriage license in Polk County, North Carolina. [74] [75] They were married at Coopers Gap on October 22. [76]

1921 Eliza Mccrow, daughter of Jeptha Cochran and Mary McMurray, spouse of W S Mccrow, died on May 31, 1921, at age 62, in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. Eliza Mccrow was born on December 7, 1858, in Polk County, North Carolina, United States. [77]

1921 Louisa Eliza McMurray McCraw died on May 31, 1921 and was buried at Dana United Methodist Church Cemetery, Dana, Henderson County, North Carolina. Louisa Eliza McMurray McCraw was born on December 7, 1858. The Findagrave memorial reported that Louisa Eliza McMurray McCraw was born at Polk County, North Carolina. The Findagrave memorial reported that Louisa Eliza McMurray McCraw died at Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. [78] [79]

1955 Eli Logan Mcgraw, son of William S Mcgraw and Eliza Early, died on January 21, 1955, in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. Eli Logan Mcgraw was born on July 31, 1873, in Henderson, North Carolina, United States. Eli Logan Mcgraw had lived at Hendersonville, Henderson, North Carolina. [80]

1968 Andrew Burton Mccraw, son of William Mccraw and Liza Mcmurray, spouse of Alice Case Mccraw, died on October 19, 1968, at age 88, in Tryon, Polk County, North Carolina. Andrew Burton Mccraw was born on June 30, 1880, in North Carolina. Andrew Burton Mccraw had lived at Inman, Spartanburg, South Carolina. [81]

1975 Arnettie Adaline Mccraw Clark, daughter of William S Mccraw and Eliza Jane Mcmurray, died on December 4, 1975, at age 83, in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. Arnettie Adaline Mccraw Clark was born on May 22, 1892, in North Carolina, United States. Arnettie Adaline Mccraw Clark had lived at Hendersonville, Henderson, North Carolina. [82]
