Norman, Domesday tenant of Peterborough. Hugh Candidus, p. 164: Haeres Radulfi de Nevile tenet decem carrucatas terae in Lincolnescire, scilicet in Scottone, Malmetone. Et in Northamptonscire unam hydam et dimidiam, scilicet in Holme, Rayniltorp, et inde facit plenum servitium trium militum. Ancestor of the Nevilles of Essex. He is possibly to be identified with the Ralph who held Habrough etc. from Alfred of Lincoln. (Comp. Peer. ix, 476). He, or his successor (possibly son) of the same name witnessed the foundation charter of Bridlington priory, given c.1114 by Walter de Gand. Possibly named from Néville, Seine-Maritime, arr. Yvetot, cant. Saint-Valery; see Loyd, 72-3.
