1364/65 January 22. Westminster. "Grant to the king's clerk John de Ravenser of the prebend which John de Hermesthorp lately held in the king's free chapel of St. Stephen in Westminster palace. By p.s. Mandate in pursuance to the dean of the chapel." [8]

1366 December 26. Windsor. "Grant to the king's clerk, John de Hermesthorp, of the prebend which the king's clerk, Richard de Ravenser, lately held in the king's free chapel of St. Stephen within the palace of Westminster. By p.s. Mandate in pursuance to the dean of that chapel." [9]

1368 John de Hermesthorp was the eleventh master of the Hospital of St. Katherine by the Tower. [10]

1369 December 9. Westminster. "Inspeximus of a charter of the late Queen Philippa, dated at Windson Castel 26 December, 42 Edward III, granting in in mortmain to God and her haopitalof St. Katharine by the Tower of London, and to Sir John de Hermthorp, warden, and the bretheren and sisters of the hospital, the tenement which she had of the grant of Cecily de Bosenham, relice of Michael Gerard, sometime citizen of London, in the parish of St. Mary Wolnoth in Lumberdestrete, London, situated between tenements of John Pecche on the west side and John Brustall on the east side, abutting on Lumbardestrete on the south side and on a tenement of William Morwode on the north sidel and ratification thereof, provided nevertheless that it shall not be lawful for them to alienate the same." 1370 June 8. Westminster. "Inspeximus and confirmation of letters patent of John de Hermesthorp, warden of the hospital of St. Katharine by the Tower of London, and the brethren and sisters of the same, dated 1 January in the king's forty-second year, granting at the instance of Queen Philippa, their patron, to Joan Fenour for life a corrody in the hospital, to wit, two loaves, one white and one blacek and a gallon of ale or one penny for the same every day, as the brethren and sisters have, 20s. yearly for her robe, and two dishes of flesh or fish with the accustomed pittance daily or else 2½d for the same, with free entry and exit to the hospital and the kitchen thereof at fitting times of the day." 1374 June 20. Westminster. "Commisson to John Pygot, sheriff of Yord, and RObert Roos of Ingmanthorp to find by inquisition in the county of York hoow many acres were sown by the king's clerks, John de Hermesthorp and Henry de Barton, guardians of the temporalities of the void archbishopric of York, while the temporalities were in the king's hand ..." 1387 July 2. Westminster. Grant, during pleasure, to the king's clerk, John de Hermesthorpe, of the office of controller of the custom and subsidy of wools, hides and wool-fells in the port of London, receiving therefor as much as other controllers, on condition that he write the rolls with his own hand and execute the office in person, the coket seal being in his custody. 1387 July 3. Westminster. Grant, by advice of the Council, to John de Harmesthorp, controller of the custom and subsidy of wools, hides and wool-fells in the port of London, that as he is one of the chamberlains of the Exchequer, he may execute the office of controller aforesaid by deputy and remain chamberlain, notwithstanding statutes to the contrary, provided that he be present at the former as often as he can attend. 1387/88 March 12.Westminster. Appointment of the king's clerk, John de Hermthorpe and Thomas de Etton to enquire by jury of Beverley and the neighbourhood by what title a toll taken, as the king is informed, for six years past by Alexander, archbishop of York, in right of his lordship of Beverley, of 1d. for every quarter of corn from men coming there, has been levied, and whether only for that period and by extortion or from old' time and justly. 1387/88 March 23. Westminster. Appointment, during pleasure, of John Hermesthorpe and Richard Braundeston, clerks, and John Fitz Geffrey of Burgh, as the king's bailiffs and receivers of the lands and tenements late of William de Burgh, knight, in the counties of Leicester, Lincoln and Rutland, in the king's hands by forfeiture; on condition that they account at the Exchequer for the issues, stock and other goods found therein. By bill of treasurer.

Grant, on the petition of the Commons in the last Parliament, and in fulfilment of the king's response thereto, to William, archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas, duke of Gloucester, Robert, bishop of Iiondon, William, bishop of Winchester, Walter, bishop of Bath and Wells, Richard, earl of Arundel, Henry de Percy, earl of Northumberland, John de Nevill, John Devereux, steward of the household, John de Waltham, archdeacon of Richemond, Henry de Percy le Fitz, John de Cobeham, Richard Lescrope, Robert de Swillyngton and Brian de Stapelton, knights, William Gunther, Richard Theme and John de Hermesthorpe, clerks, Robert de Morton, Walter Frost, Robert de Garton, clerk, John Berle and Andrew Loby, of the custody, from the date of forfeiture, of the temporalities of the archbishopric of York, in the king's hand by virtue of the judgment in the last Parliament against Alexander, late archbishop, so long as they remain in the king's hand for that cause, without rendering aught therefor, to the end that all the issues and revenues of the same may be by them applied to the repair and improvement of the manors, houses and other possessions thereof, and of the implements thereon, with power to appoint officers and ministers therein, saving to the king knights' fees and adyowsons; in consideration of the great labour and expense of Thomas, bishop of Ely, in his ofiioe of chancellor, and of the dilapidations and waste in the said possessions of the archbishopric, to which he has now been translated. 1388 July 12. Westminster. Appointment of William de Gunthorpe and John de Hermesthorpe, clerks, Robert de Morton, Walter Frost and Robert de Garton, clerk, John Barle, Thomas Thurkyll and William Ledes of Rypon, to take and set to work masons, carpenters, tilers and other workmen and labourers in repairing the manors, buildings, houses, mills, bridges, etc. of the temporalities of the archbishopric of York, in the kings hand by reason of the judgment in Parliament against Alexander, the late archbishop, and to provide the necessary stone, timber and other materials, and carriage therefor, with power to arrest and imprison contrariants until further order. 1403 Ralph Oudeby granted rent from Haconby to his uncle John Hermesthorp and others. [20]

Memorandum of acknowledgment at London in the parish of St. Alban 22 March this year [1413/14? – it is with acknowledgments dated July 1414] before Simon Gaunstede, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is on the chancery file for this year.

1409 On June 25, William Wardemand and his wife Sarah transferred land in Hermsthorp, Lincolnshire, to John Hermesthorp. [21] [22]

Action: Plea of covenant.
Agreement: William and Sarah have acknowledged the tenements to be the right of John Hermesthorp', as those which the same John, John Rede and Stephen have of their gift, and have remised and quitclaimed them from themselves and the heirs of Sarah to John, John and Stephen and the heirs of John Hermesthorp' for ever.
Warranty: Warranty.
For this: John, John and Stephen have given them 10 marks of silver.
